    UAE v Qatar

No discussion about this? Anyone happy that Qatar trashed UAE?

    #2
Iam! as Qatar did what Iran could not!! Keep in mind Qatar is now a Pariah like Iran under embargo from its neighbors and has a lot to prove! They worked hard and look at them now, ironically this team TM beat right BEFORE the competition 2-1 !!! Iran lost focus and we lost to an average ( YES average) Japan team and Qatar did not lose focus throughout. Im actually sio eager to see how they perform against the Japanese. But Im confident they will best them ...and I now support them all the way....

Expressing support for Qatar in the UAE carries a 15-year jail sentence. In light of this disgustingly inhospitable treatment, it's pleasing that Qatar prevailed.
Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

A young coach (who never coached a senior team) and a young team. They really play good football I watched some of their games and they have really evolved well with this new coach

While it is embarrassing for the other top teams, but if you like at how they are playing, there is no way we can see past Qatar. They also have fitness to boot.

The reason why it is embarrassing - they are ranked the 13th best Asian team in FIFA rankings. This just shows the huge difference in proper training camps and infrastructure.

Unbelievable thinking that they were about to sack Felix Sanchez after a string of poor results just half a year ago!

Let's see, for the last four years Iranian fans, media and managers downplayed Qatar, made fun of it, said Iranians were "superior", and they were just a bunch of lizard eaters.

For the last four years, Qatar... formalized its academy (Aspire), the same academy that produced 80% of the team today, invested in infrastructure and proper grass roots, and brought in the best youth coaches to develop their players and is now hosting the WC in 2022. This is the same team, that has scored 16 goals, conceded 0 and reached the final of the Asian Cup...a feat we have not accomplished in 43 years.

The most important factor? They did all of this without any pressure. They were a young team, playing in front of a hostile crowd...with NO FANS, and their leaders supported them and their fans had no expectation/put no mental pressure on the players. The players went out and enjoyed themselves, and this is the result.

Alireza Jahanbaksh put it best -- "with this mentality, we won't win anything in the next 100 years".

While Qatar will move forward with this team and progress (and others like Japan, Vietnam, Korea etc)... we are back to square zero due to mismanagement.

PS. before anyone comes and argues that none of these players are really Qatari ... 80% of these players, the ones in Aspire were BORN in Qatar and grew up there, they may not have Qatari "blood" ... but neither does anyone in the US national team, or the German national team, or the Swedish national team.....

We can sit and play nationalistic games all day long, and watch others build a modern footballing culture.

It's hard to support Qatar over Japan when they're more like a club team - at least half of their players aren't Qatari.

I can give you two arguments that could help you support Qatar over Japan:

                        1) If Japan wins, they will have 5 AC-Titles, which means two more than us and will be truly the King of Asia in that sense.
2)If an underdog wins it all(before the start of the Tournament Qatar was a underdog to win the AC), that somehow overshadow our lost to Japan ( and the lost of other Powerhouses)

Only bad thing is, that Almoez Ali scored and broke Daeis record yet (?)

Based on this result, Iran technically finished as the 3rd place team based on statistics vs. UAE. At least that is some consolation. And we should be paid $1 Million for making the semi final (if that money ever is actually transferred based on sanctions).

A little optimism in the face of our failure.

Even if the money arrives, it will end in Hizbollah, Hamas etc.
