Flash Back Fridays: Who remembers all the Ali Daei fights on this forum ?

Its crazy that 13 yrs have passed since 2006 world cup...some of you werent really around here then or too young to remember but there was a HUUUGE conflict between members here about Ali Daei back then. People used to fosh, curse, call each other names, etc....

Now looking back, I wonder how many of those people are still angry and would repeat the things they said back then.

I think we've all mellowed. At that time I was a big Daei defender, not because I thought he was the best but because I thought this was Branko's fault for not managing the personalities in TM.

Starting Daei over Hashemian was a mistake

Not kicking Karimi out (due to his reckless attitude and comments before and during WC) and not benching Daei because Branko couldn't handle their personas was the biggest mistake.

There were only maybe 4 or 5 of us defending Ali Daei back then. Kaiser Amir and I and a few others.
There was a big hate for him from 2004-2006 which was partly justifiable I guess due to his performances. I even had verbal fights with family members for him lol.

I think the more important lesson was the namak nashnasee of Iranians. After all Daei did he deserved more respect than people wishing death or injury on him and his family.

Also notice we still havent produced 1 striker capable of doing half of what he did. Azmoun has been great, but not quite like our old guard. I think we took him for granted, even though he was not the best player during those later years, but at least his name and frame drew attention of defenders which left our other players like Hashemian and others more open.

Remember we had Mr. Enayati - who said his corpse could score against Mexico! In 2007 he played against Mexico in a friendly and was invisible.
Also Mr. Super agent Khatibi, along with supposed superstars Borhani, Kazemian, Majidi.... who couldn't delivery anything.

We really got luck when Gucci came around and then Azmoun now.

                    Ditto!

100% with you on all accounts. Plus Daei only played in TM, because he kept getting invited to TM, and Daei never disappointed and kept scoring in pretty much all games (Except in the WC, but we typically barely score in WCs anyway) Ali Karimi was TM's biggest cancer, he started all fights and tensions in TM camp, especially in Germany. All that followed by his infamous interview and bashing of Branko.

I was actually thinking about this topic a few days ago, remembering how hot headed and passionate we were all back in early and mid 2000's. I for one would not miss a single crucial match (Live) this and all other Iranian football boarded would get flooded by soooo many members, exchanging views.IPL match threads would every week be created and tens and hundreds of pages of discussions per week. Each Tehran derby would have an exclusive Kori thread with hundreds of participants etc. In general football was much hotter and live. Whereas nowadays no new thread per week is opened, and the existing generic PGPL thread barely gets a few comments per week.

Many of our older and knowledgeable members for some reason vanished. Maij, Mansoor, Kaiser Amir etc. All gone. Quite honestly over the years the overall quality dropped, and so did number of members. Lots to be blamed on the expansion and popularity of Social Media, also growing up and getting on with one's life and its complications have hand in hand driven may members away from us and the board.

BTW aren't we all missing those days? Especially the days when we had a opportunistic and amazing scorer like Daei who on his worst days and when he would barely touch the ball, still managed to score? Ever since the retirement of Daei, our football has failed to produce a worthy striker who knows how to score. Thanks God we have Azmoun who happens to be the only one who can come close to Daei. Our domestic league desperately lacks a smart striker with good vision, high IQ and decent finishing ability.

Haha, I think I was his defendant number one. Only better thing than the Daei fights were the Azizi fights before .

Only Hashemian. The rest were nothing but hype and disappointment.

I think in the dynamics of the Mexico game, playing Borhani instead of Daei in that 4-4-2 with Hashemian would have caused them a lot of problems.
