11 June
Victory on the deadline.
It was surprising and outstanding match in all senses, especially first half. Moldova stayed in total defense and made the only counterattack that has transferred into the goal. The goal of Fistikan’s team was spectacular: Gliga made a diagonal pass from the right wing to Ghiderman, the last one came one to one with goalkeeper and rolled the ball to the empty gate. It was 39th minute of the match.
All the time before this moment Iranians players tried to deliver the ball to the penalty area with crosses from wings but tall defender of Moldova Plesco easily stopped all the attempts.
Only in the second half after the demands of the head coach Seyed Akbar Pourmousavi, Iran has changed the way of playing and delivered the ball to forwards with low passes. This tactics was successful, on 55th minute the score was equaled – 1:1.
Fistikan has answered with two substitutions. But strange things continued happen - leaders who came to the pitch with substitutions didn’t improve the playing. By the end of the match the domination of Iran became obvious. The question was: would Moldova keep the score till the end of main time, and the winner would be defined in the penalty shootout? It hadn’t happen. On the additional minutes of the match, Iran has pressed through defense lines of Moldova and forward Sobhani has scored winning goal from several meters.
Post match comments
Oleg Fistikan, head coach of team Moldova:
- We were playing according to the plan but couldn’t wait till the end. It was a fourth match and players are tired already. We let the initiative to opponents in the first half intentionally, we had realized the way they would play and there were no surprises – they made crosses to the penalty area all the time. We haven’t succeeded to play the same way in the second half and at the end we had to play easier and kick out the ball.
- Why Puscas and Cojocari – the leaders of your tem, have appeared only in the second half?
- I put reserved players in the lineup and hoped to improve our play with substitutions in the second half. But our leaders have played worse than reserved ones. Also we needed two players that were disqualified in previous matches.
- The efficiency of your team today is 100%: one strike – one goal.
- It doesn’t please when you lose. I repeat, our substitutions were disappointed.
- The last match on the tournament you will play either with Bulgaria or Greece. Who is more preferable for you?
- It doesn’t matter when you play 5 matches in 9 days.
Seyed Akbar Pourmousavi, head coach of team Iran:
- I think our victory is fair. We have dominated all the match, created many moments but could transfer them into the goals only in the second half.
- Have you made some changes for it?
- We have started this match with the scheme 4-4-2, but it wasn’t successful in the first half. We changed some position of players with the same scheme. Moreover we have started to keep the ball on the pitch and it was right decision.
- The goal scorers came to the coaches with their emotions each time they were successful. Is it always happened in your team?
- It is a result of our relationships that we keep inside of the team. We are the family and celebrates the success all together.
- Did you make a list of players for penalty shootout on the last minutes of the match?
- We believed in our victory and I didn’t fill any list for penalty shootout.
- It is obvious right now, that the fifth match you will also play on this certain stadium. Is it comfortable for you, and can you name it domestic for your team?
- Everything changes too quickly. Last match we have lost here and we were afraid a bit before this match. But now, after the victory there is no problem. We will play with pleasure on “Roschino Arena” one more time..
