    1) When it came to being in a hole.. he managed to do it against Qatar, Lebanon, and South Korea. How? He took a few weeks long camp and totally transformed our team. I will never know how he managed to change our entire team/formation in such a short span and he made a unit that kept 3 clean sheets and qualified us to the WC in 2014.

    2) After that time. There were very few instances, I watched a game and thought we would lose. As I sat in Belo Horizonte waiting for Argentina to hammer us, I realized the goals were not coming. Only Messi could bail Argentina out against this Iran. Crushing. We took away Iran's first ever clean sheet in a world cup in the game vs Nigeria.

    3) Then I had the pleasure of watching Iran play friendlies against solid teams we usually never play like Sweden, Chile. Even winning against one 2-0 and playing the "attacking way" so many of CQ's haters brought up.

    4) Watched the easiest qualifying to a World Cup in history for the 2018 WC. Didn't think we'd get scored on and that held true to the last game where I assume geopolitics/apathy had taken a hold of our team vs Syria. Watching two full games against South Korea(one where CQ's Iran had 10 men for 45 minutes) and still had zero fear we would concede.

    5) Then we get put in a terrible group. Morocco, Spain, Portugal. Yikes. I cursed at the TV. Then I go to St. Petersburg to see us play Morocco. We came out in full force. I look at the lineup and imagine we are screwed. Cheshmi? Hajsafi LWB? Ansarifard? We come away with a win. Something that did not happen in 2006, in an easier group by every metric. We play Spain and Portugal and IN BOTH GAMES, had moments where we dominated former World cup winners and current European champs. We were one shot away from qualifying.

    6) Watched the Asian cup and one mistake cost us the cup. That simple. We were purring through that tournament. Then out of the gates some snakes and low iq football domestic fans claim through their victimhood that the coach should get the axe. . While our former coach went onto coach Colombia to their first win against Argentina in over a decade(using his Iran tactics again) we had fans asking for attacking football. They wanted attacking football. And they got attacking football. 14-0! What a scoreline. You know what else is a good scoreline? 1-0 Bahrain. 2-1 Iraq. And in both those games, I felt the inevitable loss coming. A feeling I hadn't felt since 2014.

CQ had faults. But looking back. He was a saint to spend that much time in Iran and fight tooth and nail against "Iranians" who were trying to harm our TM. He's a lot more Iranian than "those people" will ever be.

Can you change good to great because good is an understatement for what this man did for our football for 8 years.

in retrospect he cared too much for an ungrateful nation where a group (albeit a minority) of such clinically braindead people have the ability to yell very loud.

Carlos was an awesome coach and I wished he would have spent 4 more years. But it is too late to get Carlos again and we have to move on with a similarly minded foreign coach who is a defensive and counter-attacking specialist. What TM has turned to now is the TM pre Carlos era. The headless chicken, no motivation style of playing we used to have. This is also largely IFFs fault as it shows Taj is not the right man for the job and we need to get someone like Kafashian who was clearly more professional in all aspects even when he had his faults... I just have a very hard time understanding why Wilmots was even considered an option for us.. We clearly don't need an attacking coach and that was the problem.. We needed a coach to expand on what Carlos did, not to change the whole thing altogether..

CQ was by far the best coach our TM ever had and it will be very hard to get a TM HC like him in the future. His contributions to our football are invaluable. Perhaps his advice for us would be: Learn from the past, be present and create a new future for TM.

Honestly he might as well be a legend. While he didn't win anything, he should have a statue outside the Azadi. This man put his soul into everything he did. He could have came in here like Wilmots and just tried to cash a check but no. He transformed our national team into not just a great Asian side, but one of the best teams in the world. Yes he made mistakes, Bosnia, Japan are examples that come to mind. He always took risks look at leaving out Rahmati for those last 3 games of the 2014 WCQ and Khalatbari, but got our young players more opportunities in Europe. The most important thing is he brought with him professionalism and class, no one was every bigger than the team. This is what got us our success hard work, dedication and unity. Plus what other coach in the history of the planet has an entire nation as a fan base and isn't from that country.

Instead of "Good" I would have written "Better than some Iranians ever deserved, and the best we'll ever have under this system".

CQ was the best we have ever had and will be probably the best we will ever have.
It is very sad but true unfortunately :-(

I would say 90% since me and i think everyone else wasnt happy always with selections like Amiri over Ghoddos and choosing Hajsafi always and so on but in general i think someone would have that problem with every coach .

Would love to see him back
