    Its much older than that.
It's essentially the Iranian version of "hoof it up and chase" which was very big in England.

What's frustrating is that in many cases for TM, it ended up being hoof it up and chase it while the defense was completely in disarray. If our defense was somewhat composed, you could say they are attempting a counter, but for the most part, before CQ days the hoof it up and chase it was always hand in hand with our defense being horrible.

Yeah it translates well, I was just curious because whenever it came up as a joke with the Iranians I played futbol with on Sundays, they attributed it to him.

I have to disagree with the comments regarding the bezan ziresh football that Iran supposedly played under Maheli Kohan. Coming out of a dark era in our football, TM played the most beautiful attacking football in Asia. During the Asian cup cup of 1996, which was the first tournament i had seen from TM, i was excited by their quick combination football, technical plays and attacking spirit. And some of that credit must be given to Maheli Kohan, but because he is an Iranian coach that credit must be taken away from him and be replaced with he is a Hezbollahi guy who knew nothing about football... and thus the bezan ziresh football is brought to life. When in reality Saudi Arabia and South Korea were crushed by beautiful, attacking minded and goal oriented football during that time.

Ahem..... Please do not disrespect the English. The English originally invented "bekesh ziresh", or in English "Kick and Run".

Their second division still plays that style. And the EPL would be playing that style if it was not for all the foreign coaches.

That's a matter of opinion and I fully disagree with you.

I was truly amazed that a player like Khalatbari (he was one of my most favorite TM players at the time too) was left behind. In the left side, it was between him and Hajsafi and CQ went with the latter. Hajsafi though, played an amazing WC in 2014. Specially against Argentina, he had cancelled out Messi during the whole game. Messi could score only after Hajsafi was subbed out.

I do believe they follow different styles...

The English pick big fast forwards...so they just press the defender when they get the ball.....it is assumed they will lose possession but win it back in a scramble. Burnley does this. I think CQ implemented this form of aliasgari hoof and chase when we beat China 3-0 in the AC. An interesting style.

The original Iranian aliasgari is more about no connection existing between the defense and midfield...leading to the main playmaker of our team being our centerback...by "bekesh ziresh". Our strikers don't concede possession but actively contest it against the other team.

                        Kick and Rush!
But they have fine tuned it and its very tactical now with early pressing to the extent, that it is nowhere near the old “Kick and Rush”.

                          Unpopular opinion: Ghafouri in 2014!
He had already shone in his appearance vs Esteghlal where he scored that goal from 40 yards (?) and besides KH.Heydari failed to show anything meaningful in the WC.

omitting a resurging AK8 (who's exemplary leadership on and off the pitch got CQ through his very rough early patches..!) and to a bit lesser extent Sardar who regardless of his inexperience @ the time, was a clear, massive improvement over the stock at hand in our attacking line , from the WC14, pissed me off the most....!
especially considering the gross over-commitment to excessive number of Defenders or defensive in nature players ..! especially instead opting to take along the likes of injured, useless Beikdzade or the over-rated glory-hunter Beitashour or avg @ best caliber Alenemeh... etc..!!
and the mistake came back to bite us in dat asss big time in our must win 3rd match vs Bosnia ..!
btw unlike most Khalatbari's absence didnt bother me much... to me he was a just a lightweight, 1-2Trick, show-pony with very limited defensive quality who badly lacked team discipline and way too frequently cowboy his own ways of playing on the pitch..!

                              I questioned Azmoun and Karimi.

Khalatbari was a very good player but if I remember Iran-Nigeria correctly all of our players were getting bullied off the ball whenever we tried to attack. We had a very fit team because of CQs newer regimens for the team but those Nigerians ran like cheetahs!

Not sure how Khalatbari would fit into that game.

personally, Don't think KB coulda figured in much useful in any of our matches ......! i suppose, he may have proved a bit useful coming off the bench in 2nd half vs Bosnia, had we not have been blown away so early as we did in that game ..!
