Thorup played a great brand of football last year and got them to second place, CL qualifiers, and a very respectable EL performance with convincing performances vs st ettiene, wolfsburg,roma,etc.
I think that losing first two matches narrowly is not what got him fired, as that is not a big deal for anybody. Likely he asked for some real investment of jonathan david money to add creativity back to team that was lost and Gent told him to get lost. Sad because without properly reinvesting that money this summer, in a player (s) that even if young can contribute immediately at CL level (unlike most of gents under radar development signing like david himself a few years ago) they will be fucked, especially trying to balance europe and CL. Will probably end of like Genk who got raped in CL and finished 7th in league last season.
Given that other LB is out for a few months with injury I doubt this has much impact on milad even tho there will be a new coach.Comment

Must be some behind the scenes kind of stuff, because Gent usually start new season like this before they find their form and rhythm.

The manager did a great job with the team last season, and the two losses were not significant enough to warrant a firing.
This suck for Milmo as Throup like playing high up in the pitch. Also from I recall from the past two years of watching The Belgian league, the new manager is Trash.

the new manager got good results with antwerp for sure but is super old school defensive coach. Part of what has been great for milad at gent was ultra offensive system is really developing him as a modern full back. He has gotten so much more confident in possession and is just now finally starting to became a real assist threat on regular game to game basis. This was/is a great development for TM because Taremi will tuck in as he always does and combine with sardar so we need real width on left to come from milad. With Azmoun and taremi he has two great aerial targets to hit. he can time his runs better, know when and how to cross better, combine with mids better for openings in behind defense, etc and feed a new avenue of chances for those guys.
Now gent will most likely play a much deeper block. Milads superior defensive play + soldier like attitude will probably mean he is still a favorite of new coach but in terms of his progression its not as good as thorup.Comment
