I think SC has learned his lesson not to sub out Taremi, as every time he did, his team conceded goals right after Mehdi's sub.

SC got everything right tonight except one sub. Diaz is a fantastic attacking midfielder and when you are 2 -0 up in at home game you dont want to score more goals but you should strengthen defence. I think the goal they conceded was because Diaz was still thinking he should run back to help defenders.

this dude Zeido down the LB position of Porto is a their weakest and most vulnerable spot on D, Octavio did a great job and ran himself to the ground covering his side defensively ... as soon as he was yanked for Diaz another weak spot defensively ... juve switched Ronaldo to the right wing and the move eventually led to the goal and provided them with a real chance now to get back into this tie..!

he was everywhere and played real well and hard ..! although as usual bit too selfish uptop, taking shots and going it alone .... had a golden chance that shoulda buried in the back of the net with a hard shot but unusually hit it too soft and right at the keeper..!!

overall it was sorta deserved MOM ..! Mehdi coulda got it ahead of him by being more active on the attacking front but he was clearly assigned with more cautious and defensive approach tonight by SC..!!? He looked more like a DM for majority of the pitch and huge reason for this win..!!
on 2nd thought he probably deserved MOM bit more than the el captain....!?

it seems the general consensus (which I would agree with) from analysts who have now seen porto in group stage + tonight (less in league) is that they really lack the technical quality of past teams (think James, Moutinho, Falcao, Quaresma, etc) but are bridging the gap between themselves and top teams with an extremely hardworking and well drilled group of players, who use on their physical strength and organization to give teams like Juve, City problems.

IMO porto play similar style to what CQ was going for in tM. Obviously for us in WC games the gap was so big we were doing what they did but on steroids and with even less possession and more emphasis on counter, but the ethos is the same.

That is one of the reasons (besides just being a very good player) that Mehdi fits with this team so damn well.

Conceicao deserves a lot of credit. I hope that this win gives them belief for renewed charge in the league. Yes, it will be hard to catch sporting but as defending champs they have responsibility to keep going. They will play maritimo on monday and then Sporting the following saturday. If they can win those two games the gap will be down to 7 pts (assuming sporting win as well vs Salmani's portimonense) and they still have games vs braga, Benfica that porto must hope they slip up in.
