I think Gholi was perfect today in the CAM role (4312) in first half. Skocic can instruct him to even drop a bit deeper more often and kickstart offensive moves like he multiple times today. In general we should stick to 4231, 433.

I really like the 4231 here. It's funny, I just posted on the Uzbekistan match thread with this in mind before I saw this. I think this is a much better formation against Mali. Skocic should show that he is not going to start Ehsan just because of his experience after his disappointing performance today. He could make a statement with not starting Hajsafi and perhaps not even call him for the next camp if he keeps performing subpar at club level. I am hoping that Noorollahi will play better after finally having five days off yet for future camps we need Ezatollahi to finally come back with power and perform the way he did at 2018 WC. I like Taremi as a left winger and he could switch with Azmoun in a give-and-go when the opportunity arises.

saman needs to be told exactly what he has to do on defensive end and he will do it as we saw with brentford vs fulham. If at any point he is tired of fails to track back, is caught up field, responsibility needs to be with gholizadeh to fill space in front of sadegh. He does this very well for charleroi. I start him at CAM bc I think he can do a lot for TM there but if that situation arises in the game he can help saman out.

I agree with your concern about potential attacks from their left, our right. their LW is djenepo of southampton who is a fast technical player with an eye for goal. It will be a big test for sadegh. I would maybe alter my original lineup and play nourollahi as the right CDM instead of left and make sure he understands to be covering inside of moharrami should djenepo cut in and try to penetrate channel between sadegh+kanaani.

Why doesn't TM plan any friendly games against domestic teams (or all star domestic team [including foreign players in the league] vs TM?) now that would be quite a challenge!
