Karimi is the one guy I thought would be able to stabilize our midfield with Ezzie. The guy had a lot of potential from his U23 days. He just never developed the way I thought he should. I know his spell at Dynamo wasn’t great, but I think he should have taken a chance and stayed in Europe to develop.

His issue is that he is not a box to box mid with energy to get up and down the pitch. At the same time he is not an enforcer like Saeid who will give you huge physical presence and crucial defensive contributions. But at the same time he is not technically strong enough to be able to recieve the ball under very high pressure with people snapping at his heels and play out/dictate tempo for his team. He can do that in PGPL to an extent because the speed is much less and the opposition press is far less organized.
These factors together mean he just doesnt give you a lot as a midfielder unless you are playing in a league with extremely slow tempo. Croatia was far too physical and fast paced to carry him as a passsenger in the midfield, and he was not technically strong enough to dictate games as a sitting midfielder from deep, so after a year they had seen enough.
Having said all of that, technically he is one of our stronger CMs.

He looked great for sepahan, nothing note worthy in Croatia, back to sepahan and not good at all, then pretty good in Esteghlal and now I guess is doing ok in Qatar. He is too streaky to ever be relied upon and is borderline TM material at his best, more on the closer side of not being TM material IMO. With saman shining as a CM these days and adding ezi, nourolahi, ebrahimi, and even Hajsafi and Amiri who occasionally play as CMs there is just no need for him. I guess defensively he is superior to most of those guys which is why I could see the argument he should be in there but I’d take kamyabinia 10/10 times over him for the sake of fulfilling the defensive duties of a DM...way stronger, scrappier and pesky against opposition forwards.
In terms of defensive duties like we both said, he is just too lethargic and low energy to justify inclusion in most euro teams or in TM xi. Now, if he was technically a really high level player, and could offset that lack of speed/defensive ability with being our main option to dictate tempo and build plays that would be fine. But he cant really do that on a level higher than PGPL/QSL either.
