So many corners, yet not a single conversion so far. The team has not gelled well together just yet. We should have played some friendlier. Thank goodness our first game is against Hong Kong.

Might be because Gholi overshot most of his corners. They put JB on the last one.

Some people here are very high on Gholi's first half. He had some great moments, obviously the goal. But he also missed runs, had late or incomplete passes and was terrible on his corners. Not very impressed.

JB playing very well and showing leadership. Azmoun needs to figure out how to score with all of these chances. I'm not a fan of our CBs coming so high up, but our backs have both done well with it, albeit Almiri is a bit slow. Eza has been solid, Nourollahi passable. Finally, Taremi appears a bit out of it and Beiro hasn't been tested.

Solid first half considering no friendlies. Need to keep building. Hope to see a couple more goals and some squad rotation in the second.

I thought that was a good performance considering no warm up games. Players at most times were finding each other. Horrible pitch and weather conditions are def not helping. My only disappointment is the quality of our corner kicks, they are too high, little pace, hope to see better quality in the second half.

I was hoping that this HK team would press us at least on the half way line, that is what Bahrain would def do. I suspect HK feels that they can beat the other teams in this group and will play an open game against other as opposed to parking the bus as they've done against us.

His corners were all off. All too high without any curve so the strikers must produce the force himself. A corner must be like a shot to the middle and we have taller players to just direct them in.

So far.. poor game and too many passes inside the box with almost no shots. This is not good.

True his corners were no good, but other than that he was the only one who tried creative stuff and managed to get through 11 pairs of Hong KOng legs.

BTW, first time Taremi went down in the box, it was definitely a penalty. I think his reputation for trying to get penalties is known worldwide and refs are now hesitant to give penalties... His reputation is hurting him.

the shitt pitch conditions and HK with 10 man behind the ball since the start .... making it real hard to get anything going

need one of Ghaedi or Torabi brought on to dribble in to their their box .... take more shots from outside the box or send more high balls right on to the 6 yard box and try to latch on a loose ball

need at least 2 more goals..

Aside from the obvious problem with the pitch that is reducing the quality of play:

1- Iran does not have an effective strategy to deal with a packed defense. Solution: shoot more, bring in close control dribbling forwards (e.g. Ghaedi).

2- Their GK sucks. Opportunity: Shoot more.

3- Their defense just boots the ball in a scramble. Opportunity, throw the ball in the box more often.

In general TM is taking too long to find openings. Press the issue more by shooting, throwing more people and the ball in the box and openings will come.
