The best and fairest decision would have been to give 3 points and three goals to the remaining opponents of North Korea. Then at the end of the games look at the position of NK in the group's table. If NK ends up 4th then in determining the best 2nd placed teams to qualify to the next round void the results they have against the 4th position in their respective groups. This would have been the fairest since Sri Lanka is the weakest and 5th in Group H but the results of the second placed in group H against Sri Lanka Particularly the number of goals scored against this weak opponent is not voided. The current decision gives an added advantage to the second placed team in Group H over other groups.
    Yes. Absolutely!
A clear advantage to weak Lebanon. It is amazing how other teams are watching this injustice and are not saying anything; coupled with Arabs Football Federation (AFC) handing the hosting of WCQ to Arabic countries only and none to other teams. This is just unbelievable!!!!

You can't make these decisions without advantaging some and disadvantaging others.

Thanks for clarification! It is about the most fair decision.

Yes, but in the AFC it most often seems to be advantageous to a certain group of countries.

Only Uzbekistan and Lebanon have gotten a advantage from this. Even for UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait, this is bad. So I dont Think we should Read to much into this. Or Else Those 3 countries Would benefit from it, which they dont.
The desicion sucks, but honestly, its the most fair thing and normal thing to do.

Bahrain is disadvantaged? Really? So we loose out on our 14 GD while Bahrain loose out 1 goal they scored against Cambodia and you say Bahrain is disadvantaged?

If they drop the results against 4th place team, in our group that would be results against Hong Kong. Hong Kong tied Bahrain on the first leg and we want that result to stand.

Yes, because if you study the other groups and the possible outcomes, you Will see that the GD is not the desicive thing when finding the Best second place teams. Its the points, and uzbekistan and Lebanon benefit alot from that. Lebanon was practically out, and now they just need 4 points against sri Lanka and Turkmenistan to advance. Thats crazy

Se WONT loose our 14-0 victory against Cambodia Within our own group. Lets say we tie Bahrain on points, we Will still keep the 14-0 victory and the goals. BUT we wont keep the goals, when comparing with the other second place teams. Therefore Bahrain is in the exact same boat as us. Do you understand what I mean? Or Else i Can clarify it further. Its kinda hard for me to explain these things in english over text

Its completely random to drop the result against the 4th place team. That has never happened in football before and Will be wierd and complicated. This is the only fair Way to it, even though its sad. The only one to blame is north Korea.
Iran, UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain have suffered alot from this. While Lebanon has gotten the biggest gift ever. So there isnt any arab conspiracy behind this guys

I do understand bro. So the gd in the group is not voided to determine the second place but it is when determining the best 4 second placed team to go through? ok i got you.

                        Exactly 👌
And remember, there are 5 second place teams who advance, because Qatar Will either win their group or be among the Best second place teams

That's the standard procedure for a forfeit like that tho, 3-0 win to the opponent

This thread reminds me of everything I hated about the pre-Carlos era. Having to slog through numerous headache-inducing calculations and “what if”s to qualify. Having to rely on like freaking Laos to tie Bangladesh AND Tajikistan to score at least one but not more than three away goals at Bhutan to qualify.

We’re so much better than this. But I guess if we can’t qualify out of a group of Iraq Bahrain Hong Kong and Cambodia then we have no place at the World Cup.

Carlos I miss you. Thanks for making those years so great.

I don't pay any attention to scenarios or calculations. Let's play our games and see what happens.
If we don't qualify, just boycott international football, which honestly is becoming less interesting. At least we won't have any reason to get mad at lack of friendlies, misnamangement, wrong picks

North Korea would have certainly finished 4th. So AFC won’t count matches against 5th place teams? Makes no sense
