We’re so much better than this. But I guess if we can’t qualify out of a group of Iraq Bahrain Hong Kong and Cambodia then we have no place at the World Cup.

Carlos I miss you. Thanks for making those years so great.
Lol still better than pre-Ghotbi era. Both Daei and Ghotbi eras were awful. And I was a fan of Ghotbi

The Daei era brought us a big heartbreak. It was actually almost cinematic. Shojaei, Nekounam and Ashjari lookin like Gohan from DBZ, with their emo hairstyles vs. South Korea and Saudi Arabia. We all listened to Tokyo Hotel and cried rivers. Wondering how Afshin Ghotbi and his Finglish could manage digging Team Melli out of the hole we were in.

Nekounam in denial while Hossein Kaabi projecting our shit onto how bad Argentina was doing under Maradona lol. I remember cheering when Bahrain beat Saudi Arabia in the AFC play-offs.. Bebin che badbakht boodim ke baraye Bahrain “hoora hoora” mikardim

I sincerely hope that I have counted wrongly, but unfortunately, it is unlikely that a draw against Iraq would be enough to take us through as one of the best second-placed team (counting in wins against Bahrain and Cambodia).

Let's say we win against Bahrain, 1-0 (or say 3-0 at most). A draw against Iraq would give us 10 points with a goal difference of +3 (at most +5) in the table below.

      afc.png

Now let's take a look at the other groups:
A: China - 2 wins out of 3 (Philippines, Maldives and Syria) will be enough to put them ahead of Iran because of a better goal difference.
B: Kuwait or Jordan - counting in a win for Jordan against Taiwan, this one all depends on how Australia perform against these two teams. Australia must win both games and if we're lucky they'll destroy KUW/JOR goal differences. Otherwise, we will need to hope for a draw in the game Kuwait - Jordan. Another scenario would be a big win for Australia against the team that wins in the game KUW-JOR could be enough as well (but they would need to win by any digit against the other team as well).
D: Uzbekistan - just needs 4 points to be ahead of Iran. They'll face Singapore, Yemen and Saudi. They will get at least 6 points.
E: Oman - this one won't bother us because of Qatar being the other team going through.
F: Tajikistan/Kyrgyzstan - both teams have a game against Japan and need to win, unlikely scenario.
G: Malaysia/UAE/Vietnam/Thailand - this one is tough to predict as of now but it is likely that the second best team will be ahead of Iran.
H: Lebanon just needs to win against Sri Lanka

So we need to have at least three teams under Iran (not counting Oman/Qatar). The second place team from group H would have been a lock-in, but with the withdrawal of North Korea this screws up things for Iran. This is why a draw against Iraq will likely not be enough.

The goal we conceeded today Can potentially ruin everything. Now we have to hope for a draw between Jordan and Kuwait, while both teams loosing to Australia. Unless Australia beets Kuwait by 3-4 goals, or we do the same to Bahrain. The one goal Hong Kong scored Was much more worse than I expected.

In your scenario, Palestine finish last in the group with uzbekistan. That May not be reality, and therefore uzbekistan need alot more than 4 points to advance. The is a Big chance that Palestine wont finish last, and since they took 3 points from uzbekistan, we must hope that they dont finish last.

And yea the Vietnam group is hard to predict right now. If Vietnam Wins their two next games, and UAE win all 4, then we are out, if we finish second.

Group B, D and G needs are our competitors. There are possibilities but its not in out hands

Lebanon being ahead of us really bothers me especially after they lost to North Korea 2-0 with that game being voided now.

Ah yes, you're right. I didn't look closer at that group but indeed Uzbekistan did lose against them. So we must hope for Palestine to go ahead of Yemen, which is possible.

But with everything that must go our way in the other groups it looks rough. This makes the result of today's game against Hong Kong not so great.

Im not considering any option other than we win all 3 remaining games and top the group

Palestine just scored. 1-0. They May finish above both Yemen and Singapore. Lets hope that Yemen finish last, as uzbekistan beat Them 5-0. We need help from saudi Arabia in their last game against uzbekistan. If they beat Them, they Will finish on 15 points. If they draw, they Will finish with 16 like us (assuming we get 4 points from Iraq Bahrain games). Then its up to the GD

Like anyone Else, i also want 3 Victories so we dont have to Think about the other groups. But unfortunately we are in a bad situation, so I believe its important to know about what we need from the other groups

Its that goddamn GD that jeeps hunting us. We only have 4+ against Hong Kong. That means if uzbekistan win with more than one goal against Singapore, they Will finish above us with a draw against saudi Arabia and a victory against Yemen

We only can become first, after seeing all tables how can we be confident to make it as second ?
We need to win all 3 games, otherwise we have no chance

3-0 Palestine! Uzbekistan would fall below Iran with this result.

All that hard earned Iranian tax money used to help Palestine is paying off in our favor

Lol. If only all the money Iran sends to Iraq comes back to fruition too.
