I remember I was pretty relaxed about our chances of qualifying before North Korea decided to withdraw because the only hurdle would have been a win against Bahrain. A draw against Iraq would likely been enough for both teams, just like the 0-0 in Asian Cup 2019 was.

As things look now, Iraq even stands a better chance of going through if they would lose against Iran and end up second compared to Iran's chances if it would end in a draw.

Windsor John, that smelly rat with pockets full of blood money lol.

You better pray to whichever God you pray to, that under the current conditions enforced upon Iran’s national football team, they make it to the next round.

Filthy disgusting bastard. We will NEVER forget these actions. And that’s not just the team Mr. John. That’s 80 million+ Team Melli fans who you sir, spit in the face of.

UAE scoring 4 goals against Malaysia, they will probably get through now if they reach 16 points. North Korea really made it a mess for us. 3 teams has to finish with maximun 15 points for us to have a chance to go through as one of the 2nd placed teams.

Looking through the groups, we’ll need some real luck for it to happen. We need to finish 1st, plain and simple.

Hi guys, i’ve been out for a couple of years.
But are we really that bad that a win at home against Iraq and Bahrain seems to be impossible?

Historically, we have always struggled against Bahrain and Iraq are really tough to play against. Home advantage is lost and we decided to let the best manager in the history of Iranian football to leave. On paper we should beat both teams, but I'm preparing for the worst.

Bahrain have improved a lot with their new manager btw.

Guys sorry to say but if we don't manage to beat Bahrain, Iraq and Cambodia than what business do we have at the world cup anyway...We would simply not deserve it. Plain and simple as that!

Although it does sound like excuses, the heat do affect the performance of the players negatively. And under these weather conditions it's much easier to park the bus and defend compared to being creative and score goals. Not to mention the terrible pitch from today which also benefits the team that doesn't need to roll the ball.

Wow dadash, you really have been out . AFC screwed us by picking Bahrain with worse pandemic control, terrible pitches and horrible weather as the central location for remaining qualifiers. IFF was sleep at the wheels before the election of the new president Azizi Khadem. He took it to CAS and couldn't get an expedited judgement or suspension of the matches via a temporary injunction. The case is still at CAS even though it has become a moot point. It has been a national embarrassment. The previous IFF president, Mehdi Taj, brought in a complete scoundrel named Wilmots from Belgium who also screwed us over and we lost to Iraq and Bahrain in the first legs in Jordan and Bahrain. Taj resigned in disgrace and IFF paid two million Euros to Wilmots even though he did not do his job due to a major screw up in the contract. TM is picking itself up again in the face of so much mismanagement at IR.

                              Go TM!

You are right in a way, but qualifiers can be tricky and there are no easy games anymore (OK, there are still teams like Cambodia...).

                                Some examples:
                                - Denmark never really qualified for the EURO 1992, but when Yugoslavia was diqualified Denmark got that final spot instead and would go on and win it all.
                                - Brazil did struggle badly to qualify for the WC2002, but managed to qualify in the end and later became world champions.
                                - Mexico didn't probably "deserve" to qualify for the WC2014, but managed to sneak through in the qualifiers just because their archrivals, the US (who had nothing to play for) managed to turn a 1-2-deficit into a win by scoring two late goals in overtime against Panama. If Panama would have held on to that lead Mexico would have been eliminated and (probably) Panama would have been in the WC instead. Mexico would qualify and later reach the Round of 16.

My point is that the qualifiers don't necessarily reflect the quality of a team, and considering everything that has gone against Iran in these qualifiers in addition of playing against two bogey teams, Iran still could do great in a potential WC which is what we all want to see in the end.
