I think the fact that this crop of players have been getting owned by Iraq in the past 6-7 years should be enough of a motivation to get the boys pumped.
You are indeed right from a moral perspective, but in sports it is a well-known psychological weapon to use certain narratives OR History for "constructive" self-manipulation, to have the best performance in a competition. Mike Tyson gave in interview were he speaks about how he would imagine his opponents to rape his wife and other horrible things only to sharpen his skills in the fight.
But certainly our Players should be fine with the fact that Iraq defeated us last time and celebrated as if they became world champion.

With those thoughts in their heads, I am afraid our players would start punching the Iraqi players like Mike Tyson did!!!!

Yeah, thats why these kind of "manipulations" have to be implemented with the right attitude and experienced Coach; beste example was CQ who brilliantly used all the lack of friendlies- the hostile environments created by media and host-countries to take us to the World Cup 2014.
Blasivic who used the Iraq-war as a mental weapon got the aimed results in the games against Iraq, without any red-card from TM-Side.

So it all depends on the Coach and the collective Psyche of the Players. I am not saying Skocic should do the same, but at least i don't want friendly hugging with Iraqi-players before the game, when heart beats of 80 Mio. Iranians ,suffering from all possible aspects in live, depend on the outcome of this crucial game.

God bless your soul. I ended up adding him to my ignore list back in 2016 because I got sick and tired of trying to decipher his responses.

Several of our players are friendly with them outside of games, but that needs to put aside during the game. During the 2001 Iran-Iraq WCQ game in Baghdad, they were showing scenes of the war to demotivate and upset our boys. It didn’t work then.

I think the more calm we stay, the better we perform in games where we’re expected to excel.

We should show no mercy or sympathy neither on nor off the field to arogh. You had to be living in Iran during the 80s to understand this.
I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.

To be honest, any team on Asia will be overjoyed by winning against us

It's good to celebrate this last win, though I felt like Azmoun's interview was kind of cocky. A tone that emphasized nothing is done until the entire job is complete (like beating Iraq) would be preferred in my opinion. I feel like Taremi was spot on.

There is still ample opportunity to throw this all away with a loss to Iraq, and Iraq is better than Bahrain and a respected Asian side with plenty of fan support and nationalism to back them up. Nothing short of a win would truly guarantee our place in the next round so a lot of this preemptive celebration makes me wary.

Azmoun sound at times very childish in his interviews, i hope he mature in this respect. Taremi on the other Hand, looks VERY professional in his recent interviews, he could be the next/future leader of TM with his mindset.

I respectfully disagree Ardalan jan. In the away match vs. Bahrain in 2019, the fans and players were laughing during our national anthem and using profanities against our team. Sardar was asked about the game and he answered as a snide professional. He didn’t say “F*** them”. He just said, “I laughed at them too.” When he was asked.

I see what you’re saying though. Ma bayad bozorgimoono neshoon bedim, Sardar bayad bozorgisho neshoon midad. I get it. But these type of interviews happen between heated rivals like México and USA after matches as well. They don’t say, “I hope so and so’s country burns.” Look at Ibra for example lol. Sardar’s idol. He would respond 10x worse than Sardar (not saying jump off a building if Ibra jumps). Sardar smiled and shook their hands as well.

After all the shit they had to go through having to play their home matches in Bahrain and train on a crappy field, have Bahraini fans curse at you and throw shoes at you, a little arrogance after a clean victory is okay. In my opinion.
