Damn, UAE scored a last minute goal on Thailand... so they're now tied with us on points and GD for 2nd placed teams and they've scored more goals!

Although, I'm almost 100% sure we're going to beat Iraq comfortably and finish first in the group so it's not going to come down to any of that.

Excellent 2nd half, good subs and great effort by the boys. I always had an issue with saman not getting enough playing time. He is a gem. And Sadar is one and only. I haven’t been this happy with a team meli game foe a while. Hope they keep up the team spirit and push for a 1st spot and off to the next round. This group deserves a WC

Only then the second place teams' results against 5th place teams are discarded for choosing the top four 2nd place teams. So, we need to score as many times as possible against Cambodia with the goal of ending up on top. I am rooting for Hong Kong to tie Iraq on Friday. I watched parts of Iraq-Cambodia match and Iraqi players looked horrible.

not an exhaustive list, but key player takeaways for me:

Azmoun - a real killer, even if tired and struggling with 100+ degree F heat
Amiri - simply excellent
Taremi - elite player, even when tired
Ghoddos - has finally 'arrived' - should be a fixed player from now on
Ezzatolahi - slowly but surely coming back, will be very important for TM going forward
Goli - great player, but not his greatest outing today for TM
Hajsafi - ...
Gaedi - showing some promise, should get more playing time in non crucial situations
Bereinvand - didn't have much to do.
defense - actually did ok
