No even the likes of CQ or Branko could accomplish that.
our current squad is also FAR FAR superior to years past
and if i recall well we dominated the shitt outa bahraini's all game long even in that 1-1 tie (unlike today in first half ) but we just couldnt apply the proper finishing touches on our numerous chances..!!
needed a finisher of quality of Sardar ..... 9 outa 10 TM strikers of past n present lacked the calm and composure of and would fail to finish off a chance like that of Sardar's first goal today..!!

Thank you Team Melli Jaan, after a nervous start we smashed it. Well played all, great finishing Azmoun.
The referee was also overall good. Have to also acknowledge the Bahrain team, they didn’t play dirty & didn’t try to get under our players skin. It won’t be the same when we play Iraq. We have to now beat Iraq fair & square.

This is why we needed a friendly match. After Hong Kong game + 20-30 minutes in bahrain game our players just only started finding each other. They played a good passing game specially in 2nd half. I'll say our players have %40 chemistry and we need a lot more games to reach 100%. Good thing to consider is that Both Sardar and Taremi know each other by heart, they can find each other without any problem.
Ghoddos played like a boss, owned every single bahraini player however he had trouble finding our players most of the time. Gholizade + Ghoddos have only started building a nice connection.
IMO Gholizade + Ghoddos - Taremi + Azmoun = One of the deadliest offensive line in asia.

Hong Kong will be not easy for Iraq, they will need to field their best players, so i can see slight advantage for us.

With this GD, we practically sealed our place in the next round. And we missed so many chances! BIG thanks to Skocic for reviving our WC chances.

Not sealed yet. Literally the more crucial 50% of advancing to the next round depends on our next 2 matches.
Just making sure Bahrain is out of the qualifiers would do the job!

Highlights in Arabic. Listen to his tone changing as the game is near the end.
