Some observations:
- If you can go to EPL or Championship, go. Ghoddos is a different player today than a year ago. Much more physical and much better under pressure as English football gives you very little time to think. Quick decision making and thinking one step ahead is key. Great game by Saman.
- I have always appreciated players like Amiri and Ebrahimi... Nothing fancy but solid consistent result every time. We miss Ebrahimi in this tournament especially now that Amiri may not make the Iraq game. Iranians fans gravitate towards players with good dribbling ability, I think because we all learned to play in kocheh pas koche ha, playing 2v2 in small goals with a plastic ball where all you can do is dribble passed your guy to score. Dribbling does have its place in organized professional soccer but in my opinion, it is much lower on the pecking order especially for mid fielders. Technical players like Gholizadeh who depend too much on their dribbling ability can have amazing games and sometimes not so great games like today.
- Our central defenders need to change for Iraq game. I would play Pouraliganji and Hosseini in both Cambodia and Iraq games. One of the major jobs for central defenders is to send long accurately weighted balls to wingers and over the top balls to the strikers. Our current combo have not been doing a good job of this or working with the midfield right in front of them. I'd say, warm up Pouraliganji and Hosseini in the Cambodia game and if/when they perform well, use them against Iraq. All four are good defensively, but offensively, I would go with PAG and Hosseini. Also, I think this combo makes less erratic mistakes...
- I don't know what this Skocic/Hajsafi deal is, but if he drops Hajsafi, I can get behind Skocic and will support him 100%. I don't mind having a no name coach as long as he knows his stuff and cares which he probably does. He has restored the cohesion that CQ built between the players and Wilmots destroyed. He is 5-0 so far. Just please drop Hajsafi... He is no CQ, of course, but being a little political and navigating the course without burning too many bridges and not making too many enemies has its advantages too.
- A big part of us being better in second half was due to Bahrain not playing as defensively and our players being less nervous. It was a very tense first 45 minutes. Legs felt heavy... Second half, temperatures cooled, not sure what was said at halftime, but players were more relaxed and of course, HajSafi did not play in midfield. And once the first goal goes in, the whole game changes.
- We still have a lot of wood to chop. Two more games to win and we have to take both very seriously or our dreams can still crumble...

Just something to add here. PFDC had over 10,000 live viewers during the game which was great to see after a while. Cheers to all of them even though they have not registered but they are still coming back to PFDC for their news. I think in the era of social media, we have done great as an independent community so cheers to that. Thanks everyone.Last edited by webmaster; 06-07-2021, 10:01 PM.__________________________________________________ ________________________________________
