No aziz, I have to disagree with you on that. Although the 2002-2006 TM era was great, our core players, in terms of individual talent and in each position was off the charts in the mid-late 90’s. Don’t get me wrong, we had a fantastic team during that time, but they weren’t on par with what was the culmination of mid-late 90’s era team which we watched at France 98. We hadn’t seen that until 2016-17 where we witnessed the emergence of the 2nd coming under CQ.

Keep in mind I’m talking about the era of Team Melli as a team not as individual talent (Karimi, Hashemian, Nekounam, Ando etc..). I’m talking about TM as an overall unit/group of players (the talent in each position).

If we can drop 6 goals on syria to start the qualifiers
The gd is number one tie breaker
Uae will compete with us to the almost the end
Its a 3 team race with iraq oiutside chance

Its super important 12 points against lebnon and syria
          Thats the key

          Uae is no pushover
Its better group than group b
But we still have to play quality opponents
          Iraq is no joke either

During that era it was all about Daei, Azizi, Bagheri and Kia who were the backbone of TM during that era and were way more talented than the rest of the team.
This era is much more competitive and each position has good players.. some players have better talent than the rest but not so lagging behind.

The 98 team was very special (for obvious reasons) with some great players. But if you want to talk about individual talent of the 2006 WC team: Mahdavikia, Rezaei, Nekounam, Zandi, Karimi, Daei, Kaebi, Ando, Navidikia (At some point in the squad's professional careers, 5 of them played in Bundesliga, 1 in Serie A, 2 in EPL, and 2 in La Liga!!!)

Dadash, I’m not comparing the mid-late 90’s to our current generation. I was saying we haven’t had a Golden generation since the mid-late 90s until now. As in we have a Golden generation now. I was comparing the 2002-2006 era to the mid-late 90s era. Read what I wrote lol.

1998 team we had lack of centeral defenders
                      Nader mohamadkhani was called up
We where super offensive team weak D.

Our 2001 team which did not qualify to was one dominating team
Complete as it gets all the stara from lTe 90s in their prime
No azizi die to bache naneh bazi. That 2001 team would beat any tm ant any era
Add young karimi too , thatwas dominating team.

Without any doubt, 2006 squad was the golden generation with the best and most well-known international player and Branko blew it and after that he didnt even bother to return to Iran with his team. The 98-team, was though the most lovable team with Bagheri, Abedzadeh, Daei and Azizi on their prime.

From your post on the previous page: "our core players, in terms of individual talent and in each position was off the charts in the mid-late 90’s..."

I would agree with you, however, that our current TM has a great cohesive and team spirit. This was lacking in WC 2006 due to a number of reasons (including big personalities), which should have been controlled and managed by a great coach. Branko was not a great coach.

2001 yeam would beat the 2006 team 3-1

OMG , Iran’s group is the best & easiest we have ever had and I mean ever.
Thank god for this for once at least.
The other group is truly the group of death.
