Porto lost their attacking threat with that double change - Diaz and Mehdi and the link up was the threat. Mehdi being on the pitch also gives licence to players like Diaz , Evanilson and Otavio to make forward runs. Liverpool defenders were also marking him which freed up space for the other attacking players.

Milan beating Atletico is a great result.

Porto can now advance with a mere draw vs Atletico (assuming Milan dont beat LFC, which is a strong assumption).

So now a draw might be enough against Atletico. As long as Liverpool beat Milan

they got lucky with the result and milan win.

but to be honest, they have been better than atletic and milan and deserve the second spot more than those two.
they play some great entertaining football, just frustrating with the final passes/misses and so on,

if porto goes through, playing not 100 %, imagine if they land 2-3 transfers that are succesfull on the field, a good defender to pepe, a good partner to mehdi, and a good passer for COM, they can go all the way...

I don't agree he was bad. Just because that one chance where he passed instead of shooting?

Other than that, he was fine. His usual self. Had good build up play, had a header unluckily deflect off Matip, had another header go wide (half chance), and lot of defensive work and hustle.

I dont think it was a fair sub (especially for his son who just took Mehdi off a PK over the weekend). I'm sure Mehdi is in his own head a bit but he'll persevere.

I would have been less annoyed with him being subbed out if Both Otavio and Evanilson were also subbed out. Since both players were not as good as him and also messed up good attacks/chances.

To be fair the headers were more half chances, from difficult positions. In the UCL as underdog team though you gotta capitalize on a 1 v 1 like that. Just shoot it low and between the legs... really had a moment to secure qualification there. Otavio's opportunities and flukes were far worse though. Missed an open goal tap in and an easy layoff.

I know the guy was angry at Taremi, but you don't sub your game changer at 60th minute and put your 18 year old kid in because you are upset with him! They couldn't make a single attack since Mehdi went off!

He was playing his usual position, not as deep as previous games. Linked the play up very cleanly, good in aerials, strong pressing as usual.

On the goal scene he was unselfish (so much for hot shot bad attitude some ppl keep trying to shove onto him) and probably should have gone for it himself. The run to get in behind was perfectly timed and very intelligent though.

I think some people are still salty from TM situation, you need to let that go to objectively analyze his porto games. I was surprised by his sub, right at that time porto were actually gaining momentum, seemed a weird choice and so it proved as they couldnt muster anything up after he came off.

His physical presence was a big threat all night and opens up so many channels for evanilson, diaz.

That’s not really the point. Taremi had his moments but he also had his bad moments. Yes, Evanilson didn’t do anything either, but do you really think Taremi was subbed because of some sort of agenda that SC has? Do you really think SC made that decision without considering the situation and the player? SC has shown tons of respect for Taremi and has supported him quite a lot, even after that red card against Juve last year

Also Chico isn’t a Porto level player? Tell that to the entire footballing world that had him on the shortlist for golden boy. He’s a young player with tons of potential

SC made a tactical decision and he probably had his reasoning. Anyone who’s complaining is just being emotional and having unreasonable expectations that our players should be held above the club that they play for, a very delusional mentality

Well in the end the decision was wrong. Before the sub porto were threatening a few times with taremi, diaz, evanilson combos.

After the sub nothing and they conceded another to top it off.

If you want proof of that, you can see klopp getting worried asf right before porto subs and he got henderson ready to shut down the midfield zone that was allowing these dangerous transition moments.

Taremi doesnt have to score to have a good game. His linkup game was sharp and smart, he was making dangerous runs, and a menace in the air. for pool his sub was a blessing and allowed them to focus on clinching 2ng goal
