I saved this and I pray that you're right. I think if he ends up turning his career around the way Mehdi Taremi did, that itself would be a huge accomplishment.

I hope ARJ stays for the duration of his contract despite the frustration of some fans of the team and folks posting here. Clearly, opposing players have been told to mark him tightly and close him down immediately and not give him a chance to open up. He is in competition for that spot with a younger player who is more suited for ball control and resetting the offense. ARJ instinct is to break through the defense personally so he can quickly open up for a shot or a pass. Coach can use both skills and neither one is good enough at what they do to lock up the spot.

I don't think any Iranian fan who's followed Jahanbakhsh's career will ever forget Graham Potter. He's not the only person to blame but he's surely a big reason Ali is where he is.

I pray to the football deities that there will be NO other Iranian player in the English Premier League ever again. Unless they're coming up the ranks from the Championship like Allahyar, or were European based since their youth. I wouldn't want Sardar or Mehdi to risk it either.

Stay as far away from the EPL as you can.
So you pray that our players stay in inferior leagues till the end of time? This is not Potter's fault...Coaches change and you fall out of favour. It's up to you to dig yourself out of a bad situation. Don't blame a league or 2 coaches for JBs failure. He was overhyped and flopped. How is he any different from the dozens of other Eredivisie hopefuls that joined the EPL and failed? He's just a byproduct of a weak league.

Can he do better? Yes. Was he ever good enough to be a marquee signing in the EPL? No.
        End of story.

                It is true.

                Justin Bijlow - 6.5
The first word that will come to mind for many Feyenoord fans is injury. Once again, De Kuip had to do without the intended goalkeeper of the Dutch national team for a long time. Bijlow is still struggling with an injury to his foot and again had to miss a large part of the season. That is why it is difficult to give a serious assessment, although the closing item made a good impression in the first months of the football year. After the summer, Bijlow will hope to finally be able to play 34 matches.

                Matches: 22

                Ofir Marciano - 5
Because Nick Marsman decided to exchange Rotterdam for Miami in the summer of 2021, Feyenoord started looking for a new second goalkeeper. In that search, technical director Frank Arnesen ended up with Marciano, the goalie of the national team of Israel. Where Arnesen completed many excellent transfers, Marciano's entrance has not turned out to be a good grasp. The routine is rarely caught in a clear game. That ultimately cost Feyenoord the necessary points.

                Matches: 12

                Marcus Pedersen - 6
Another addition to Arnesen was the Norwegian international Pedersen, who immediately made himself felt during his first weeks at Feyenoord. While he is actually seen as a newcomer for the future, the right-back has made a lot of minutes this season. In the last weeks of the football year, however, the pipe seemed pretty empty. Pedersen did not play very well and is not one of the best eleven of trainer Arne Slot. In that battle he has so far been surpassed by Lutsharel Geertruida.

                Matches: 30
                Goals: 0
                Assists: 4

                Lutsharel Geertruida - 7
A stronghold in the rear of Feyenoord who was born a stone's throw from De Kuip. Years later, Geertruida is a rock in the surf and seems to get a little better every season. A basic place for the Rotterdammer is almost a certainty. Slot mainly uses him as a right back, but the strong defender is also a suitable option in the heart of the defence. His name is increasingly associated with Orange and that actually says enough.

                Matches: 28
                Goals: 3
                Assists: 0

                Gernot Trauner - 8
Whoever said at the start of the season that this Austrian would become one of the most important players was probably thought to be crazy. Still, Trauner managed to steal the hearts of the Feyenoorders quickly and he gets a lot of praise. The experienced center defender is extremely solid, defends strongly and almost always plays the ball to the right color. An excellent season is therefore rewarded with a big pass. In Rotterdam people will undoubtedly enjoy De Kale Kletser.

                Matches: 30
                Goals: 0
                Assists: 1

                Marcos Senesi - 7
Together with Trauner, Senesi forms a solid duo in the rear of Feyenoord. Especially next to the experienced Austrian, this left leg feels like a fish in water. Senesi's performance is always under a magnifying glass and the Argentinian also regularly has to deal with criticism. Yet this season has shown that Slot can indeed build on the center defender. It is therefore not surprising that there is already the necessary interest. It is possible that Senesi has already played his last game in De Kuip.

                Matches: 32
                Goals: 2
                Assists: 2

                Tyrell Malacia - 8
Like his good friend Geertruida, Malacia is getting better by the week. This season, the born Rotterdammer once again proved to be a real plague for many right wingers in the Eredivisie. Even Ajax player Antony, who was in great shape, had a very tough afternoon against Malacia twice. National coach Louis van Gaal also sees it in him and hopes to have the new left back of Orange at home. The question is whether we will see Malacia in Rotterdam for a long time to come. Manchester United and Olympique Lyon would like to have him.

                Matches: 31
                Goals: 1
                Assists: 4

                Ramon Hendriks - 6.5
A boy for the future who was certainly not allowed to leave on a rental basis this season. Hendriks is still only twenty years old and was allowed to smell the real work at NAC Breda. He showed that he is ready for it, but he has to be patient at Feyenoord. With players like Malacia and Senesi before him, that is of course no shame. During the matches that Slot gave him the opportunity, he showed his good side. After the summer, Hendriks will undoubtedly have more minutes in the main force.

                Matches: 8
                Goals: 0
                Assists: 0

                Fredrik Aursnes - 7.5

It took a while at the start of the season until this Norwegian had conquered his starting spot. He didn't come to Rotterdam until mid-August, so he had to be patient. Aursnes was not confused by that and seized his chance. He has now become an integral part of the midfield of the Rotterdam team. He is the link between defense and attack. He is calm on the ball and Aursnes can look back on an excellent debut season in De Kuip. On to another strong football year for this international.

                Matches: 33
                Goals: 1
                Assists: 4

                Orkun Kökcü - 7.5
As with his colleague Senesi, Kökcü's achievements are always under a magnifying glass. The midfielder is regularly criticized, but has had a good season. After all, we must not forget that Kökcü is only 21 years old and has played pretty much everything. Then there may be a lesser match every now and then. But with seven goals and nine assists, he has played an important part. The rumor mill around the born Haarlemmer will soon get going.

                Matches: 32
                Goals: 7
                Assists: 9

                Guus Til - 7
It was a season with two faces for Til, who temporarily exchanged Spartak Moscow for Feyenoord. With today's science, that was of course a good choice. Til got off to a flying start under Slot, who was already his trainer at AZ in the past. The attacking midfielder was good for many hits in his first months in De Kuip and managed to steal the hearts of Rotterdam quickly. In the second part of the football year, Til fell back a bit. Nevertheless, they want to keep the top scorer.

                Matches: 32
                Goals: 15
                Assists: 3

                Jens Toornstra - 6.5
The captain of Feyenoord always comes up again, although he is no longer sure of a basic place. Toornstra, now 33, belongs to the furniture in De Kuip and still has added value for the team. This season, his production remained at three hits and he was a declarant three times. Yet something always happens when the routine is or comes within the lines. Slot will therefore gladly keep him with the group because Toornstra has always proved to be a very reliable selection player.

                Matches: 31
                Goals: 3
                Assists: 3

                Jorrit Hendrix - 5.5
When he entered South Rotterdam, Hendrix was already labeled as a purchase for the width. However, the ex-PSV player knows the ropes and can also be seen at Feyenoord next season. The left leg played nine games, but the high tempo regularly proved to be a problem. Nevertheless, Hendrix has proved to be a welcome addition to his roster for Slot. In an emergency, the Limburger can play in several positions. For the time being, Slot mainly let him play in midfield.

                Matches: 9
                Goals: 1
                Assists: 0

                Luis Sinisterra - 8.5
Perhaps the most important player of Feyenoord during the past football year. The question marks that hung around his name years ago have now more than disappeared. Sinisterra has also frivolously dribbled through many defenses this season and can show impressive numbers. The question is therefore whether the Colombian international can last longer for Feyenoord, which will undoubtedly receive some calls about the left winger. Frank Arnesen has to work as technical director to keep him.

                Matches: 29
                Goals: 12
                Assists: 6

                Reiss Nelson - 6.5
Initially Feyenoord wanted to strengthen with Amad Diallo of Manchester United. When that proved unfeasible, Arnesen quickly switched and Nelson was hired from Arsenal. The winger had to be patient for a long time and in Rotterdam people wondered whether he was a reinforcement. In the end he fought his way into Slot's team and he has now had a permanent base place for months. The next step is more commitment to goals. Perhaps that is at Feyenoord, since the club also wants to bind him longer.

                Matches: 21
                Goals: 2
                Assists: 5

                Bryan Linssen - 7
While an adventure in Japan is just around the corner, people in Rotterdam will secretly be disappointed that Linssen is almost certain to leave. After years in the middle bracket of the Eredivisie, the experienced attacker showed that he can also take on the challenge at a top club. He will be happy with his stats, especially since he lost his starting spot halfway through to Cyriel Dessers. But what applies to Toornstra certainly also applies to Linssen. When the little striker made his entrance inside the lines, he took his team by the hand more than once.

                Matches: 34
                Goals: 13
                Assists: 8

                Cyriel Dessers - 7.5

Where the whole of Rotterdam hoped for Joshua Zirkzee last summer, Arnesen suddenly conjured Dessers out of the top hat. The skepticism about an acquisition was rarely greater than with this Belgian striker. He started the season on the bench and was deployed as a supersub. After successfully completing that role on a regular basis, Slot could no longer ignore him. Dessers did not always play well, but gave his opponents a very unpleasant afternoon. He managed to remove the skepticism and can rightly call himself a crowd favorite.

                Matches: 27
                Goals: 9
                Assists: 2

                Alireza Jahanbakhsh - 4
When Steven Berghuis decided to make the move to Ajax, Feyenoord thought they had found a suitable successor in Jahanbakhsh. Many fans even suggested that the club had improved with the Iran international as its new attack leader. However, this has not yet been shown at all. Jahanbakhsh has had a very unhappy season. He started the football year in the base, but quickly disappeared towards the bench. The experienced attacker hopes to be able to show his qualities after the summer.

                Matches: 27
                Goals: 4
                Assists: 3

                Patrik Wålemark - 6
Everyone agrees that we will see and hear a lot more from Wålemark in the coming years. The talented Swede came to the Netherlands halfway through the season and had to tolerate Sinisterra, Nelson and Jahanbakhsh on the flanks, among others. When he was allowed to play, Wålemark regularly showed that Feyenoord has gold in their hands. That has not really come out yet, but let's be patient with this young youth international from Sweden. After the summer, he just might become one of the trendsetters.

                Matches: 12
                Goals: 1
                Assists: 0

They just signed another young Striker so he might be leaving or they might be getting good offers for Sinistera.

It is understandable that local fans and writers are disappointed but the numbers tell a different story. According to FotMob

                            Season rating

                            1 Sinistera 8.03
                            2 Kokcu 7.82
                            .
                            .
                            8 Jahanbaksh 7.24
                            10 Nelson 7.15

He is number 6 on the list of goal scorers. They were expecting he would number 1 or 2. Nelson is number 10, Walmark is number 14

On the assist list he is #10 behind Nelson who is #7

You missed my point. As I said, Alireza and his agent are also to blame for why Alireza's career went down the path that it went. It's not entirely Potter's fault. But to say Potter didn't play a role in Ali's football career would also be foolish.

Looking at our football history and how Iranian players have done in the English Premier League can lead to thinking maybe our players will do better elsewhere. Players from other countries have also struggled in the EPL. It's not just Iranian players. And I'm not saying Iranian players should avoid superior leagues.

He's a byproduct of a weak league? Really? So are Ziyech and Lozano byproducts of a weak league as well? I agree that leaving Eredivisie and going straight to the EPL is not easy. But Alireza's decision, with the help of his agent, and the decisions of Potter lead to him being where he is. That's my opinion.
