Chelsea will open this game up in the 2nd half. It is clear Zenith simply does not have the technical and physical capabilities that Chelsea does. A tie would be a really well earned point.
Zenit has done well to block Lukaku. He has had no chance so far.

Sardar needs to lively up a bit and step up his off the ball effort a bit in the 2nd half if he is to get a goal ...!! he was way too sluggish ... and often sloppy with his few touches he got..!!
this is contract year son .... all eyes are on you to see if you can cut it amongst the big boys...? no on expecting you to put in Taremi effort off the ball but that lifeless performance in 1st half also looked way too apathetic ..!
Not bad all things considered. Zenit seem to be playing for an away point. Can't help but feel that if they tried to play more openly they could grab a goal.
Azmoun not much to do besides win some headers. Had a great run on a counter but Claudinho without the quality to send him through. Could've been the decisive chance.
Surprisingly they closed the spaces very well, strong shape and the defenders have done brilliantly thus far to not get overpowered by Lukaku. He keeps trying to isolate lovren replacement chistyakov but fair play to the guy hes been up to challenge so far.
Claudinho looked particularly bright.
Azmoun is mainly just blocking passing lane between two chelsea CMs, making it harder for them to switch play. Hes clearly been instructed not to press high centrally.
First 10 mins his touch was off, lost 2-3 balls, but then it normalized. Some good 1 touch layoffs, and a couple great leaps to link play. One got claudinho free with shooting chance in the box but his angle was quickly closed. Also was a good nuisance to get azpi yellow carded.
One time azmoun spun off with great run in behind on the break, claudinho couldnt find him. Those are the kind of runs/passes they need to connect to get an actual goalscoring chance. they need to create more of those situations.
And yeah to echo comments here...hes been instructed not to press, clearly. If he presses they will play quick 2 passes around him since there is no midfield support behind him on the press.
The reason you say malcom and Claudinho press a couple times was bc they were coming from the line and pinning their full backs there, but even that went to zero later on.
whole idea is to make team as compact as possible rn, pressing from central position would break that.
Chelsea is more active now. Decent save by Zs keeper
