I was really hoping to evaluate Saman Fallah during these games but he's just been clumsy and doesn't have the highest IQ.
These boys really need PGPL match time.

Fallah is regular starter.
More than even lack of game time at club level lack of game time in international matches (particularly in high stress situations) cost them. When they should have stuck to gameplan that was working they lost their composure.
Maybe now it shows that friendly matches vs pgpl sides behind closed doors are not enough...
I don't know what the math is behind them making next round but honestly, we don't deserve it.
No player has stood out this tournament for me. Yasin Salmani, Saman Fallah, Mohammad Khodabandelou all suppose to be big players for us this tournament. Just hasn't happened. Saman Fallah has been atrocious, no two ways about it.
But there seems to be a lot of IQ issues with this team - and that always starts at the grassroots level. Silly fouls. Bavieh fouled someone near the halfway line when it was going out (which led to a red). A lot of diving from our players too.
I don't know the rationale of not taking Aria Barzegar to this tournament by Kia. Javad is a pilon up front, despite having great size.

No wonder Salmani didn't get much of action this season in league.
He wasn't anywhere close to his last season. A few steps back for him. Dissapointing really
Having said all that, this is not cause for alarm.
We need to let Mahdavikia do this thing.
This is an u21 team for the most part and has 2 prep games before this tournament.
They’ll get better and learn from these mistakes. Not all of them are going to be TM starters.
Now go watch France-Argentina in Toulon Tournament… There are still many TM fans who think top league/clubs sign players just because of their nationality or to sell shirts.
When our league is 2nd worst in the world (!) for % of mins given to u21 players, and we select an almost exclusively u21 side for a u23 tournament, then difficulties are to be expected. In addition, arguably 3 best u21 attackers Allahyar, Hosseinzadeh, Delfi are either with senior team or Delfi case injured/not selected. Having those 3 up front instead of ones we did would mean totally different tournament, they are our best players in that age bracket.
Today the first half they completely dominated, game should have been 2-0 or 3-0 in the first half an hour. 1 mistake was and PK was enough to give turkmenistan confidence and totally ruin confidence of our team. 1 chance PK shouldnt have such a big mental impact on the team. in the 2nd half they failed to impose same control.
Important for Kia to assess is who he can build with in next 2 years before olympic qualifiers and who should be quickly disposed of. Thankfully games like this make some choices clear.

Yes. After this tournament has been a failure, we can only look forward. Hopefully Kia won't get axed and they can let him do his work.
From this group - Milad Kor has stood out to me. Good thing is he's one of the youngest and I really hope he can leave Iran ASAP to develop.
