At this point, I think the Arabs below us in the standings have pretty much given up trying to catch South Korea or Iran and just want to compete versus each other for the ultimately useless 3rd place spot.

It's essential that we beat Iraq to seal qualification as the optics of it will mess with their team's mentality in the short term

I know, Uganda and South Korea are playing Iceland and Moldova in Turkey before World Cup Qualifiers. Iran can’t do that because our league teams especially Perspolis and Esteghlal would complain about stoping the league sending their players to TM camp early. This would have been a good opportunity to play two friendlies in the beginning of the year before the World Cup test our league players and we could’ve even invited some euro players on winter break.

South Korea's league is shut down till February, that is why they can at least get all their domestic players together for those 2 friendlies.
Same goes for Iceland and Moldova.
