Iran vs Syria Post Match Ratings

    Post your ratings here:

Beiranvand- 7.5. He was very solid. Seemed very confident and had a great punch late in the game. A confident Beiranvand and Abedzadeh is great news for us at GK

Salmani- 5.5. Looked very shaky, especially since he was out of position. Was rightfully subbed early in the second half.

Shoja- 7.5. Besides his mess up on that 1 v 1 with Khribin, he had a pretty good game. He plays some pretty good balls but he needs to be faster IMO.

Kanaani- 8.5. Arguably my MOTM. I think today was his best game yet... Was a lot faster today, had some great passes and amazing interceptions and tackles

Amiri- 6.5. Hustled hard like usual. Had to cover a lot of ground.

Sarlak- 6.5. Was defending well before his injury. Had a really bad tackle on his concussion which could've been a red with a harsher referee.

Nourollahi 6. First half good, second half poor. Played some great balls and hustled well but second half he lost possession a decent amount and sent some really poor balls...

Ghoddos 8.5. This guy should be getting 90 minutes every game. Head and shoulders above every player on the pitch...

Gholizadeh 3. Worst individual performance of a team melli player i have seen since Shojaei versus Iraq in 2019. Was abysmal... Had more turnovers by himself than almost the entire two teams.

ARJ 7. Get's a bad rep here but he honestly wasn't bad. Unlike Gholizadeh at least he hustles defensively and wins the ball back. Lost a lot of 1 v 1's against the Syrian LB but scored a goal.

Taremi 8. Had almost no service all game. Felt like I was watching another Rio Ave game where no one would feed him the ball and he would have to pull off some miracle to score. Was great though besides the bad elbow.

    SUBS:

Hardani 7.5 was head and shoulders an improvement over Salmani. The goal came from his amazing ball control and pass.

Ezatolahi- 7.5. I would've given him an 8 if he wasn't the slowest player on the pitch. His technicality and passing is amazing.

Torabi- N/A didn't really do much

    Ansarifard- N/A same as Torabi

Milad Mohammadi 3. Awful. Makes Hajsafi look like Roberto Carlos...

Ezzi was one of the best players today.
Amiri can’t play 90 minutes. He hit a wall in the second half.
No idea why Ghoddos was sub’d.
    Goli and Slamani were bad.
    Hardani was a pleasant surprise.

Taremi - Okay (he was closely marked)

Beiranvand- 7.5, good clearance on a corner. he is our most trusted goalie, i love what abedzadeh is doing in spain but Beiro is our king until he is not.
Kanaani- 7.5, solid performance. very consistent, lost his man on that corner though
Khalilzadeh - 5.5, inconsistent, also had like 5 potential yellow cards and lost his man at times.
Amiri- 6, not good in midfield but saved a sure goal at the end with his hustle. he should stick to LB until we find someone better
Sarlak- 5, clumsy tackle where he got hurt but he was defensively solid. terrible on ball
Nourollahi 5, hustles as always and good first half but really bad in the second half
Ghoddos 8, not sure why he came off, very good on ball and sharp. a step ahead of his teammates mentally
Gholizadeh 3, he was terrible but i think he linked up for the goal with taremi and JB. a man of moments, not consistent enough to be a starter IMO
ARJ 7.5 predictable player but hes solid and we know what we are gonna get. imo a fixed player
Taremi 7.5, did what we could without his buddy azmoun. maybe lucky to not get a red card

          SUBS:

Hardani 7, head and shoulders above salmani. hes pretty short though overall. i miss ramin...
Ezatolahi- 7.5, solidified our midfield for some time
Milad Mohammadi - 1.5. this guy is simply awful and a liability. we should stick amiri at LB until hajsafi is back

          for Iraq

          Hardani, Kanaani, Khalilzadeh, Amiri

          Eza, Nourollahi, Ghoddos in midfield

front 3 of JB, azmoun, Taremi

            Analysis:

Playing Taremi as the lone striker against a team like Syria was a strategic mistake. He needs another dangerous and lively attacker with him to be his most effective. He still did well regardless, as always, but would have been way more effective with another striker up front.

The midfield drama continues. Much, much work needs to be done with finding the best arrangement. Ghoddos, Jahanbaksh and Ezatollahi are three key players and have to be starters.

The defense in this game was troublesome, partly because many key defenders were missing, but also because of the midfield situation. Nontheless they held up, so respect to them! Bereinvand was very good and so was Kanaani.

            On Jahanbaksh:
I don't understand the critique of him. He was fit, pressed very well, had great positioning throughout. His ball handling greatly improved. His confidence is back. He had several attempts on goal and scored the winning goal. What more could he possibly do? MOM for me and I've never been an irrational ARJ fan (neither a hater). He has clearly improved and finally become a difference maker for TM. A must starter for future games.

Ezatolahi had very good control of the midfield, both in his ball distribution and aerial game. Yes, he is a bit slow but he really stabalized the midfield.

Milad Mohammadi does not belong on the field in his current form. It used to be he was great at defending one and one and really lousy when it came to his crosses. Yes, he's fast and could run up the field but if you can't cross, then what's the use ? And now that his defending is awful, why have him in the game.

Not sure why Ghoddos was subbed, but if the coach is pulling you out at the start of the second half, he's either very unhappy with your play or your injured. This wasn't a friendly game, and we had to win so he wasn't subbed just to keep him fresh for the game on Tuesday. Maybe he wasn't happy with balls not getting to Taremi and was looking for a change. Very surprising.
Kanani was solid and one of the best players in the game

Beiranvand, as usual was excellent and I really like the way he punched the ball away on that dangerous cross.

              Nothing special about Gholizadeh.

Taremi was good, and there wasn't much he could do given that he always had three or four players on him. He really needs Azmoun in the lineup to take pressure off him

ARJ was solid and when you score the only goal even though it was a deflection, you have to get high marks.

I’m as mad as the next guy about our display today but let’s look at the beauty, which should outweigh the ugly:

                - SK - Iraq: draw
                - UAE - Lebanon: draw
                - Iran - Syria: 3 points for Iran

Those results could not have been any better. I think there is no debating we got lucky today but remember that’s a part of the game and when it’s not on our side we cry and now that it is on our side some still want to act like our campaign is over and cry 20x as much.

In other news if anyone has anyone news on why saman was subbed out at halftime plz share…..that sub was disgraceful by the coaching staff given how he was playing a level above everyone else the first half.

I think Ezatollahi was good defensive, but his transition play was very slow. If he gets his speed back our rate of attack will be much better. - 6.5
Ghodoos was excellent and should not have been subbed. - 8

Amiri was inconsistent, but again look at how much he was covering. Even in the 1st half he had to cross from Left to right to cover Salmani's gaps. - 6
Gholizadeh was bad. Just seems out of it. I don't know what's going on with him. - 3
Mohammadi seemed like he had just gotten out of a really deep sleep. - 3
Salmani pretty damn bad, hesistant to defend, slow to attack. Didn't use any of his physical capabilities. - 4.5
Shoja and Kanaan were good - just slow. Teams with lots of transition play up top will cause lots of trouble. - average of 7
                  Noorollahi - invisible. - 5
JB - Positioning was excellent - everything else bad. His goal was great though so damesh garm, even if it was a deflection. - 7 (without goal he was a 5.5)
Sarlak was doing a great job too but got injured. No complaints and a competent sub for us going forward. - 6.5
Taremi - damn talented, strong, did a lot of work, but he needs to stop being so hot headed always. He's being coached by a maniac in Porto (and playing alongside maniacs too) so he's actually more crazy now than when he was in Iran. Still a key player for us. - 7.5
Beiranvand - excellent. Confident. Cool. Got us out of what could have been some messy set pieces. 7.5

TM plays at the level of its opponents guys - Let's hope we can actually play our game versus Iraq. They will play very much like Syria - slow, physical, and annoying.

Beiro - 7.5. One good save from FK, looked to be dipping in off bar. A couple crucial punches/catches from corners. Used to be a weak point of his game before going to europe. Those were huge plays that I doubt abedz (As much as I am loving his progressino) would make. His aerial exits are super shaky, often flaps at the ball. Sticking with Beiro paid off in this case. Some great throws from him too that ARJ and Taremi couldnt take advantage of, passing and kicking very solid.

Salmani - 4. He would have been lower but made some improvements in last 10-15 mins of first half. Rightfully he subbed. He looks visibly uncomfortable at RB. I am really unsure why skocic keeps forcing him to play there when sadegh isnt available.

Kanani - 6.5. Solid display. He needs to be quicker when the ball is at his feet. Too many times he trips over it or some BS like that, ruining momentum of building out from back. But in the tackle he was smart vs Khrbin. On one set piece he was badly outjumped, thankfully guy headed way wide.

Shoja- 6. Pretty similar to Kanani but his one mistake was the Khrbin chance, really fucked that one up. His passing is better than Kanani's and his pass was the trigger that made our goal. Brilliant long ball. The additional half point deduction is because some of his challenges were a bit reckless for somebody on a yellow card. None were particularly bad but given pathetic grassrolling syriand he could have been more careful.

Amiri- 6. Not his best game but not bad. One great intervention to stop counter. He was weaker than usual on the ball, but as mentioned covered a lot of space.

Sarlak - 5.5. He wasnt terrible when he was on but his range of passing is very weak compared to ezatolahi's. The tackle that gave him the concussion was mindless and frankly lucky to avoid red. I wouldnt persist with trying him as DM solution. Our play improved a lot with introduction of ezatolahi.

Ghoddos- 7.5. Only guy giving real creativity, control in middle of the park. He looks visibly way fitter than before. His pressing was strong. Really confused why he subbed. Were going to struggle vs Iraq if he doesnt start.

ARJ- 5.5. Not sure what anybody saw that was particularly good. HE fucked up multiple great chances, his goal was actually going off target without the deflection, pretty horrible considering how close and free he was. He struggled beating his guy, played a couple nice passes over the course of the 90 but thats his usual contribution for TM and its not enough.

Nourollahi - 5.5. He runs a lot, yes we know that. But this second coming of karim Bagheri (or evena crappy version) has to be sarcasm right? The guy cant pick his head up if his life depended on it. Has torabi wide open across the pitch and still tries forcing a ball down taremi's throat when taremi is making a DECOY run. For a box to box midfielder he is really dumb in both boxes. That play should have killed game off.

Gholizadeh - 4.5. Very shitty. Surprised he lasted as long as he did. ITs clear he is not in form like pre summer. Needs to regain that form fast or else he will be on bench for his club side and on bench for TM. I get he might be dissapointed to not get a transfer that he really deserved but hes taking too long on the ball, making bad decisions, weak finishing, etc.

Taremi - 6.5. He was man marked by 4 people, had some good one touch knock downs, nice assist for the goal. But for TM he doesnt play best as lone CF. Needs sardar to be the focal point and drop deeper to left and showcase his playmaking qualities, late runs into box.

                      Subs :

Ezatolahi - 8. MOTM. His passing accuracy and range was fantastic. Yes, he is not in top shape yet, yes he could cover more ground, but as I said pre game nobody on TM has his technical profile in the DM position. We need to stop trying other people there bc its just silly. Until you find somebody with his technical qualities on the ball, and physical strength + defensive positioning who is also able to cover a lot of ground, you must start him.

Hardani - 7. Another who really impressed me this year in PGPL + especially ACL for foolad. He is only 22. Very explosive, great engine, smart on the ball (look at first touch pass after shoja long ball for the goal, that is a very high class touch). He should be number 2 RB behind sadegh, and starting when sadegh isnt available (often). Should be him and sadegh in RB spots for next decade if he continues this progression.

Milad - 3. Visibly out of match practice, not sure why he needed to be subbed on. Another in long series of strange choices by this coaching staff.

Ansarifard. - N/A. Came on and lost the ball a few times. Vintage Karim.

Torabi - N/A. Hardly noticed him. Wouldnt have minded if he got a full half given displays of ARJ, Gholizadeh.
