It's insane how much shit this guy gets just because he doesn't pull FiFA street moves everytime he touches the ball.
TBH I didnt think he had a great game, ok but not great. Better than his horror show vs Iraq for sure.

But I also think LW spot doesnt help him. He is already not great 1v1, we know that. Playing there means that every time he wants to meaningfully contribute he will cut in and be confronted with a man, one that he usually fails to beat, thus lowering percentage of penetration, breaking lines, creating unbalance when we are against deeper defenses. This problem is exacerbated on our left bc he has no real good overlapping full back to give him the extra yard/take the defender away so he can do something.

His best place has always been the RW combining with the RB, and it gives a more natural angle for his strong crossing abilities. I think him and sadegh or even him and hardani would be a very explosive combo there.

Taremi best games for TM have never come as a CF. Always off the left. Even vs bahrain it was when we went 433 in second half and sent him to LW/LF that he really came through. Playing him there allows us to access his playmaking abilities more and confuses defenders. Issue is playing him there reduces your width a bit, so we need either a very in form milad (dont currently have) or a new LB option.

When ARJ was out of form in crucial 4 Bahrain games, gholi stepped up to the plate. Goal vs HK and crucial cross field, defense splitting pass for the goal vs Iraq.

Now gholi looks very out of form, and ARJ is picking up steam for feyenoord, naturally he needs to be trusted and deliver. That the beauty of having guys busting their ass in europe, they can push each other for TM and whenever one isnt at his best there is always a next man up to do the job.

But SKocic shouldnt waste time with starting people who are out of form. Ezatolahi is exception since he plays a position where our other options dont possess 1/10th of his talent (Im sorry but bc Sarlak covers an extra few yards you dont bench ezatolahi for him, he is inferior in all other categories, anyways its not like he is covering Kante-type ground off the ball). Here we can clearly say that Gholizadeh, Milad, Salmani should not be on the pitch, we dont need to waste precious minutes having them confirm that to everybody.

        He was. Not anymore.
As i said before, he is lucky we don't have like Javad and Ando around otherwise he wasn't even part of squad.
Anyway i will be more than happy if one day he find his old shape in 2018 qualification and WC. Because the potential is there.

I have mixed feelings about Saeid starting but to be honest, with his performance today I think he deserves a start against Iraq...

The one big problem with Saeid is he is very slow and looks out of shape... However, when in shape he is the best holding mid we have.

I dont know why him being in shape has to be such a big deal to say he is no longer in best 4 DM of iran lol. Sarlak I dont even think can kick the ball as far as him honestly. He changes our whole game being able to actually switch the ball and make smart passing choices.

This is really an easily fixable issue. Look at ghoddos fitness improvement. Saeid is actually in a much better place bc he has a great natural physique unlike ghoddos, naturally the strongest CDM we have physically, he just needs to lose like 5kgs and improve his agility a bit. If TM fitness staff sets up a strong plan with Vejle guys I am sure he will be totally ready. Skocic should personally speak to him and ask him why its become such an issue, never was before, tell him he relies on him and to for him to be at his best he cant have any extra weight whatsoever.

But the drop off between him and the second best, Sarlak, or even Ali Karimi (who is not a real DM at all with limited defensive skills) is huge. Saeid's aerial capacity, defensive positioning, passing range, ability to play out under pressure are second to none. Only karimi playmaking abilities come close and as we see from his failure in croatia he needs a lot of time and space to show his strong playmaking skills. And even going beyond that he is rarely fit so hard to rely on him as the certain answer. Oh and his defensive abilities are nowhere near Saeid's, and if you think Saeid cannot cover a lot of ground then this guy has the same exact issue.

Anyways saeid played a great game, probably secured xi spot for Iraq match.

It's really tough to rate players when a team plays so scrappy but I just like to reiterate some very important TM stats under Skočić:

              1 - 100% record with 5W, 0D, 0L, 18GF, 1GA, 17+GD!

2 - Most goals scored against Hong Kong ever - tied with the 3 we scored against them way back in 1977!

3 - First EVER victory against Bahrain in Bahrain!

4 - Victory against Iraq in a competitive match after more than a decade!

5 - First home win against Syria in World Cup Qualifying since 1977!

So our performances on the pitch may have been less than desirable, ugly or even crappy but you gotta admit, that's some seriously impressive stats after just 5 matches.

CQ did a lot for TM no doubt and he never faced Hong Kong but as far as items 3-5 he was 0 for 3 after 8 years.

No time for a full rating, but I was excited about Hardani, looks very promising. Salmani and Gholizadeh had a poor day, the former just isn't a right back.

Watched the full game again and we were actually playing pretty good for the first 60 minutes, totally dominating Syria. Last 30 minutes was 50-50 and we looked stressed. What a difference looking at the game live with all the stress compared to watching it afterwards 😅 We deserved the victory, but it was not convincing.

Milad Mohammadi is done for now and should not be invited again until he gets his shit together.
We’re so lucky VAR wasn’t installed in Azadi, otherwise we could have finished the game with 9 men.

I don't remember TM consistently getting results in the 90's. They would for example lose against Bahrain after beating Saudi Arabia. Luckily get a draw against Kuwait after a series of good performances and wins etc. 8 wins in 8 games is pretty far from our situation in the 90's so your comparison is off.

ahmad nour's positioning sense is excellent and does the basic, routine passing etc well and puts in a shift and is in thick of action often (big reason why coach start n give him full 90/ bit like like HSooti perhaps..!!?)
However his rather overall Average Class/Caliber levels as an international Attacking Mid/CM shines through whenever he attempts a rather Tricky or a sorta Special, Unexpected, Clever through-ball Dribble/Pass, Switch-Over and any Outstanding Final Touch for that matter ...!! He Fails near 90% of the time at pulling Such off...!!
Hence his overall Underwhelming and sorta ineffective seeming features for TM ...!
                          ps
im guessing these Sofa Score, FotMob etc tally up scores mostly based on Computer Generated Stats... where the number of touches and completed passes will figure heavy in their assumption of heavy and key involvement in the game + they tack on few points for Assists/goals scored etc..!??

ARJ IMO, Put in a great shift yesterday...!! from hustling and workrate perspective ...!!
he is a generally smart overall footballer so he moves on about and position himself cleverly in the final 3rd of the pitch especially...! but the real annoying aspect of his game is that he is WEAK in possession and too frequently fails to beat in first marker and commits too many silly Turn-overs that puts the team which is often outa-position Defensively in jeopardy of dangerous counters..!
add to that he was rather sloppy in Finishings yesterday ( had a rather weak clear header on goal, another time weak shot on goal saved by keeper easily after marvelous Set-up play by his attacking partners, and even his shot on goal was looking to sail outa bound? or saved by keeper, before getting deflected into goal luckily by defender's last gasp clearance effort..! )
besides, from time to time, its seems as he is trying too hard to have a unnecessary Fancy-footed (Ronaldoesque) technical touch on a simple tap-in pass or a through-ball or etc... and more often than not it fails to materialize and leads to another dangerous counter and loss of possession..!!

yesterday in terms of Effort and being where supposed to be i give him an 8...!! in terms of general effectiveness only a 5-6 max

He cover very little space and because of his lack of speed and now being much more heavier he has to rely on long passes. So someone else has to cover that extra miles. This will be main issue vs stronger and faster sides.

And reason why even today Skocic decided to go with Sarlak. Probably a 3rd/4th guy in their matrix for DM.
                            Quiet sad. .

You need someone who can actually make long passes and keep the game moving.

Nourollahi just smacks his long passes into the man in front of him and cant make any pass that isnt sideways or back.

He covers ground like you mentioned before but his actual quality on the ball and vision is quite poor compared to saed.

Saed is also much better at actually winning the ball wheras ahmad just runs into people but very seldom actually wins back possesion.

I'm also not happy with saed's weight gain but he immediately changed the game and we just dont have anyone even close.

The fact that people even think Sarlak can be used instead of saed is laughable.

Saed is the only CM that can quickly get ball to either flank with accuracy and does his defensive duties very well, very much like nekounam used to do for us.

Ahmad, Sarlak, Amiri, are not capable of doing so.

I would say having both Saed and Ahmad in midfield with ghoddos or amiri is a healthy mix for me

I keep reading "Ghoddos was our best on the pitch" and I am trying hard to make sense of what Skocic had in mind. Did he sub him out prior to our winner goal and after the goal? If prior to the goal, then it is an awkward substitution. Especially if the sub got done under normal circumstances, such as no injury, no yellow card etc. I truly am puzzled by this sub. Can someone fill me in on this?
