If we keep moving the way we are and manage to schedule some friendlies against the likes of Croatia or Belgium and see good results there, we may be able to sneak our way into pot 2 for the WC draw this time around what do you guys think👀

Croatia maybe but Belgium? It would be a dream come through eventhough I'm not expecting to beat them but still it would be amazing to play these tough dogs to see where we are.

pot 2 unlikely, pot 3 is a big achievment by itself and its 100% pot 3 if iran qualify as top of the group

I wouldn’t say it’s unlikely we are 22nd last world cup the #11 ranked team til 20th I believe were in pot 2 and I figured since the president of the Belgian FA is Iranian he could maybe pull some strings like the Charleroi signings

International friendlies are pretty much done for.

World Cup qualifiers and nations league, combined with COVID-19 makes decent national teams very reluctant to play friendlies like before.

How many more games do we need to win to reach our highest ranking ever?
I believe 15th is the highest ever achieved.

That could very likely put Iran into pot 2, so no more Spain AND Portugal like shenanigans...., unless FIFA changes the system (no doubt they may)

The only reason Iran was pot 3 in 2018 was bc the US choked and didn’t qualify. Otherwise we would have been pot 4. Pot 2 is a possibility but the problem is that getting to 15-18 ranking is very tough bc the point gaps are huge after around 20. If we end up Pot 2, it will be less about Iran’s ranking, and more because teams ahead of us choked. Like US (again), Colombia, Sweden. All currently on the bubble, but a long way to go. The good news is pot 3 is looking more and more safe (again, assuming FIFA keeps the same system). We could be 20th if we win both matches in October because Peru and Wales have a few tough matches in that Fifa window.

Iran is officially ranked 22 (though 21 on the live rankings after today's game) . If winning all remaining games, then is likely to reach ranking of 19-20. Wales (ranked 19) has only 20 more Fifa ranking points than Iran, but there is a gap between them and 18th Croatia.

The top 15 seeded teams which qualify for the world cup, and Qatar will be in Pots 1 and 2. In 2018 Iran was ranked 34 and made Pot 3.
These are the only teams ranked above Iran for which qualification is still uncertain:

Chile (FIFA rank 21, ranked 6th in SA qualifiers)
Wales (FIFA rank 19, ranked 3rd in group E)
Switzerland (FIFA rank 14, ranked 2nd in group C) - may need to play-off
Croatia (FIFA rank 18, ranked 2nd in group H) - may need to play off
Senegal (FIFA rank 20) - will need to play off against a runner up from another group which could be Cameroon, Ghana etc... at the moment)
Sweden (FIFA rank 17) - may need to play off if they become 2nd in group now
Portugal (FIFA rank 8) - may need to play off if they remain 2nd in group

I think there's a good possibility that ~3 of these teams may not make the WC.
So it really needs the other likely-to-be-qualified teams unexpectedly lose games, affecting their fifa ranking adversely, for Iran to make Pot 2 (with the assumption that Iran wins ALL remaining games), and also needs some luck if US doesn't qualify, or Colombia and Uruguay lose games against Peru/Venezuela etc...
Being in Pot 2 will be absolutely HUGE for Iran's chances of getting to the next round. This is still very speculative and needs a lot to happen.
