bro, this can EASILY be achieved.
by having a country that respects international norms, respects its neighbors & their rights, and stops making enemies of everyone.... on DAILY basis!!!
once that's done, the rest fall into place.
We'd have the entire world open to us.

But that's not the case now, and we don't know how long it will take. And even SK, Japan didn't succeed in becoming world powerhouse on the long term, because at the end, they are stuck in crappy Asia

The rest of the world (Europe and South America) are filling the empty spot with useless nation league and copa America every year. Even if Iran become what you describe, we will have hard time finding good opponents

Btw What allowed a team like atletico (once in 2nd division) to grow and be considered like a world top team? Playing and performing in CL almost every year. If the team had to wait 4 years to play CL, knowing they won't perform brilliantly each time due to a strong competition, they would never had such breakthrough.

Why Sevilla aren't considered among top world teams? Because they don't play CL every year and when they do they never go far

I’d rather have the asian cup every 2 years. CAF is doing it right with an african cup every two years and also domestic african cup every 2 years. That should be implemented in AFC too IMO.

The world cup should stay every 4 years and the teams should be reduced to 24 teams. I like that format the best where even 3rd placed teams can qualify for KO-stages!

Every four years!! The reason why the WC is so special and magical and holds such significance is because it does not happen so frequently, so when you qualify for it, it's special! It will lose its significance and magic if it comes around too quickly (i.e. every two years).

The push for 2 years and 48 teams is money-driven. And $ is destroying soccer and its traditions.

The argument by PSG in favor of 2 yrs referring to UCL is slghtly off, imo.

UCL by itself is an exciting tourny becoz we watch the best club football in the world. Correct.
But this is about the QUALITY of the tourny.

we are talking about novelty and the glory of qualifying for the WC. NOT the quality of football on display.

using the same UCL example. If a year a good club doesnt qualify for UCL, it's not the end of the world for them. All they have to do is wait some 8-9 months more to have a chance.
But if you miss a WC, you gotta wait for 3 and half years to have another chance at it.
THAT makes it like gold. Like something you'd tear yourself on the pitch to achieve.


on a personal note' Barca got thrashed in the past 2 seasons at UCL.
yeah. it was painful for a week or so.
But we know we're back in the race within a few months again (it's a different matter that barca management have all got shit in their skulls and have truly tried to destroy the club beyond repair as if they're controlled remotely from madrid)


so lets make a distinction between the quality on display in a tounmnt AND actually reaching it.
if you struggle and push yourself to the limit to reach something, only then you'd find glory in having done so.

You’d break the league down into sub groups. 1-24 25-48, 49-72 etc.
You’d promote, relegate or stay in the league you’re already in after playing all games in the season.

You’d have centralized locations for each group to minimize travel.
Each tournament would be its own World Cup.

The winner of the 1-24 group would be the world champion.

The difference is that Barcelona play in one of the best league in the world, so the waiting is not that painful. And even if an European club like Barcelona fkkk up big, they end in europa league. That's not too shiny but that's not that bad.

Compare to Iran NT waiting.
You don't find painful to watch the whole world playing during 4 years, progressing when we have nothing than one game against japan, two against sk and iraq, Syria and Uzbekistan?

CL is prestigious because the best players are there. But that's the same with world cup too. The same CR7, the same neymar, the same messi. They just switch teams, jersey and teammates. The exotics teams of world club are also there in CL (sheriff tiraspol, nicosia, ferencsvaros..)

I don't understand how a TM fan can be so focused on wc prestige, except if he also supports an other national team like brazil Germany italy.. I could understand that from a German fan that see his NT play plenty of competitive games. Personally I don't even watch a wc without Iran, or wc games when TM is out.

And if you speak about prestige, what to say about Asian cup? No international TV broadcast it, the whole football doesn't give a clue. We even forgot that Qatar win it and who were the previous winners. A bunch of war torn country like yemen and Palestine joining the festival.
