My favorite moment was how Sonny Saad was caught saying "You should be ashamed. We're f*cking Lebanon." before his post game interview.

Oh man! That was sweet. Shades of Qatar in 2005. It’s always that little bit sweeter when the opposition are grass rolling cheats and the referee is giving you fuck all. To be honest I’d almost given up and chalked this one up as one of those days where nothing falls for you so fair play to the boys for persisting.

Positives:

- Amazing mentality, especially to push for the winnner and not react to the obvious playacting
- I thought there was great energy and counterpress from the midfield and we were good defensively on one to one battles. Impressed by the fitness levels to keep that up for 90 minutes
- Apart from the horrendous (and freak goal), we never looked in danger of conceding
- We kept working the ball well and recycling it to find the overload or space out wide

Negatives:

- Despite working the ball well and getting behind full backs, JB and Gholi’s final balls and decision making were horrendous. Azmoun’s movement didn’t help and highlighted what Taremi offers in terms of creating problems with his intelligent movement to add an extra body in goalscoring positions drifting in from out wide.
- Given the above I’m puzzled by Skocic's substitutions. Was right to give Sayyadmanesh some time, and I thought he did well. Ansarifard was a last ditch attempt to add an extra body in the box to create problems and it worked. But I thought this game was calling out for Ghaedi to run at their defense and draw fouls, particularly given the multiple times we’d isolated their fullbacks. Also think Torabi’s higher quality in terms of both delivery and distribution would have been ideal for the last 20 minutes. Not sure how Gholi stayed on.
- Some of Shoja’s distribution was horrendous today
- It obviously worked in the end but I thought the balls into the box became a bit too frantic and rushed. Good to know we've got a plan B, though!
