My takeaways:
- should be abedzadeh’s starting spot to lose
- Hajsafi should retire
- Gholi should be reserved for 70+ sub. He’s not reliable enough to start
- We need to identify a permanent LB so Amiri can always play midfield
- Majid deserves a chance over Shoja
- We have no one who can reliably take corners

Agree with everything, also bring in Ramin, Danial Esmailifar or Ghafori to compete with Moharami. Gholizadeh should be brought on when our opponents are tired. Also, Hopefully Pouraliganji recovers could see Skocic playing 5-2-3 at the World Cup same formation we played against Bosnia.

I agree.. I would like to see Ghoddos be given another chance to start.. Allayar and Ghayedi playing more than a few minutes would be nice too..
I would also let Abedzadeh start from here on out unless you want to allow Niazmand an opportunity to start the final game.

With how poor Shoja looked today, it's time to get Majid back into the fold.

I am a big fan of Beiranvand but he screwed up too much in Lebanon game and got lucky with his 2nd mistake. He felt too safe with his spot, glad he didn't get to play this game.

TM under Ghotbi was the worst TM ever.

I don't consider him a great coach, but in fairness to him, he took over a team that was completely demoralized by the KSA loss. We had to travel to North Korea, come back to Tehran, and then fly back to South Korea all within three weeks. So, two away games halfway across the continent, courtesy of our incompetent and powerless IFF. We were within 10 minutes of qualifying and of course we lost because of a goal by a legitimate European-based south Korean star. I don't want to say Ghotbi did anything great, but let's just say we've had worse coaches.

We did at times look clueless just behind Syrian 18 yards and out of sync in terms of positioning. Although we used the space well, specially behind their two full backs, most our best chances were created by individual efforts and not team play.

This is what Taremi brings to our game an orchestrated midfield just behind Azmoun.

Noteworthy, Eyval Amiri as usual AND I thought I would never say that, Eyval, up and coming Nourollahi, perhaps his game has improved since moving to UAE, his shots definitely have.

Finally whatever has happened to us scoring from set pieces? We were feared in Asia for tat

Bottom line though, well done boys. Sitting pretty at the top, well on the way to the world cup.

Again, it is hard to judge purely based on result vs 2/15pts syria or lebanon to say if team is doing great or not.

I thought tonight was a lot better than expected given the lineup. We still had issues creating chances in first half, and gave syria some clear looks, as well as some very errant passing to start (nour, Hajsafi, shoja especially and as usual). Gholi also really struggled in first half.

Amiri was strong in first half, and his ball to azmoun changed the game.

In second half I thought our passing was better. Nourollahi especially upped his game, which was good to see. Saeid was enormous and constant presence in the middle. Still Shoja struggled in possession, and couple times soma got away from him into dangerous areas.

As game got more stretched it suited gholi more. He needs space to do what he does best. Vs packed defenses unfortunately he is way too 1 footed and predictable, but as soon as he has speed to run in behind the equation changes. That is why I think for these games where we have so much of the ball ghoddos should be given way more time and trust, even if it didnt click for him one game vs lebanon.

The subs I thought were a little strange. Sarlak didnt offer much of anything, allahyar came on quite late, and the 2 mins for ghayedi was again nothing that he can really grow from.

But overall this win has sealed our qualification. Now its time to start employing some strategies and personnel schemes that may actually be of use in WC.

hopefuly we can take 3 points of a new coached (dick advocat resigned) irak and get our tickets to qatar before we play uae, korea, and lebanon

what a boring qualification campaign!
Quite the novelty for us.


Amiri was very impressive. I wish he was 3-4 yrs younger. Scouts wld be lining up at his door by now.

The good:
1- Abedzadeh got his chance to stake his claim.
It can only get better as it shd force Beiranvand to focus more

2- Once again the team showed it can do the job without X or Y as long as others pull their weight.
That X or Y can be any of the stars like taremi, azmoun, JB, Beiranvand, ...
great for team confidence as well as self belief.

3- Kanaanizadeh was also impressive as he choked Soama throughout the game.


4- We're almost (90%) qualified and I just dont see anyone coming close to push us to third.
Now, we can concentrate on remaining 1st


The not so good:
1- Very conservative lineup.
I can understand why. But somehow cant really agree we needed to be THIS conservative with syria ffs.
I mean Ghoddos couldnt have done any worse than anyone else

2- Gholizadeh is slowly showing to be more bothered about individual moves than "getting the job done anyway possible"!
That may work against the likes of syria. But against a decent team, he wont get a second extra to do his dribbling. And he ends up wasting golden opportunities.
I wish he would just shoot, instead of playing with his food.
