Long courted by Olympique Lyonnais, Sardar Azmoun finally joined Bayer Leverkusen this winter. Where is it?

Olympique Lyonnais dreamed of it day and night. At 27, Sardar Azmoun turned the heads of the Gones, who wanted to recruit him during the previous two mercatos. Last summer, the Iranian remained at the Zenit St. Petersburg, rather greedy. Six months later, the residents of Groupama Stadium had a flashback, especially since the player had the advantage of being at the end of his contract in June 2022. But the Gones were doubled in the final stretch by Bayer Leverkusen who paid 2.5 million euros.

"With Schick, Alario and Azmoun, the Bayer has 3 good attackers. But the first 2 seem to be ahead of Azmoun right now. Which was predictable. I think Bayer's initial plan was to anticipate his arrival this winter so that he would have a real chance next season. With the injury of Florian Wirtz, who was the best offensive player on the team, he may have a bigger role to play."

Leverkusen wants to take his time

He continues: "the first game he played the most, against Cologne, he had three very big goal chances. But he missed them in a rather embarrassing way. He is not a player who attracts attention with dribbles and hooks, but he is very effective and technical with a clean finish. He is different from other attackers." Regarding the speculations about his future role in this Club:

Contrary to a huge chunk of PDFC wisdom I actually believe Sardar has chosen wisely in his carreer regarding club-choices.
And contrary to many I think he is a hard working player. The sucess in Zenith proved alot.

I remember the times when ppl were making fun of his advice/joke on social media that ARJ should come to Russia to do some "pish-raft". It really sent iranian fans boiling. Not to forget all this iranian discourse about him being a mommas boy for not leaving russia. Just the tip of the ice berg, I can mention a few other funny examples. In retrospect he seems to be making the best choices! He is a good guy, with a likeable attitude that works hard. You will never hear a bad word about anyone from him. We are immensely lucky to have him playing for his country.

This kid will thrive in bundesliga when his fitness issues are resolved: make no mistakes about it!
