This was one of the best performances of TM and one of the most memorable ones. Qualifying in Tehran in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic with women in the stadium and in face so many challenges was sweet.
ARJ played his best match for TM ever and deserved MOTM. If it wasn't for the amazing saves by the Iraqi keeper, it would have been 5-0 with ARJ, Gholizadeh and Amiri on the scoresheet plus Taremi having a brace. Moharami did a great job offensively and I did not see any defensive lapses from him this time. Kanaani was great. Noorafkan was good. Shoja was inconsistent. I still acknowledge his contributions but it will be interesting to see who will be there on Tuesday alongside Kanaani since Shoja got his second yellow for round 3 matches and will be disqualified for the next match. If they could get Majid Hosseini back, after the quarantine period, that will be my choice. Otherwise Skocic should start Siavash Yazdani along side Kanaani. Saman should have scored at least once yet I still think he did well and I liked his offensive presence and I think he will get better if he gets more playing time. Abedzadeh further solidified his place as our starter. He is such a cool confident presence in the goal. Saeid was also great with another solid performance. I think Vadhid Amiri was again awesome on and off the ball and he again saved a sure goal in the second half just like the Lebanon match. Amiri doesn't get the praise he deserves.
Unlike many here, I don't think Skocic should or will do any major changes before the WC draw because he is motivated to go into the draw with the best TM rating. I think he will start trying younger talents during the post draw friendlies. I actually agree with that approach.
Go TM!
