WCQ 2022: Iran - UAE (Info, Reports, and Live Updates)

There is no way that FIFA will allow Iran and one of the Asian team to be in the same group regardless of anybody's ranking. All Asian teams will have the same seed number. A few years ago there was this wishful thinking also and when questioned FIFA, organizers said no. That Will not be allowed.

^You can have multiple countries from same federation in the same pot, just not in the same group (except for Europe). I believe, If they draw a country from the same federation that is already in the group, then they pick a different country to fill that group.

The main team here is South korea. A win againt UAE will give us about 7.3 points and a win against south korea will give us about 14 points (almost double points for SK).

Now here is the worrying part: a loss against south korea would reduct 11.3 from us and a loss against UAE will reduct about 17.16 points . So We must not lose/draw to both UAE or south korea.

►Now the question is that can we beat UAE in azadi stadium infront of our fans (females too), with couple of yellow card players being benched? I think yes. I think we can do it with zahedi/karim instead of taremi, Ahmad.noor instead of saeed ezza, Sarlak instead of ghoddos.

We really need Ghoddos , taremi , mohrami and Saeed for south korea game. These players can change the game for us.

Right now we have 1,565.05 points. We will reach 1590+ if we win the remaining 3 games and climb up to 18th place in fifa ranking.

Italy or portugal - 1 won't make it.
Colombia or Uruguay - 1 won't make it. (90% chance)
sweden and wales have hard task to make it.

Each pot has 8 teams, but sadly the host will be in pot 1, so therefore only 15 more spots available for pot 1 (7 more teams) and pot 2 ( 8 teams).

Idealy teams ranked 1 to 15 will be in pot 1 and 2 but fortunately for us some top ranked teams such as italy(#6th)/portugal(#8) , Colombia (#17th)/ Uruguay(#16), Sweden (#18)/Wales (#19) have hard time making it.

Looking at 2018 seeding and pots: teams ranked 1 to 18 made it in pot 1 and 2. That was because teams ranked #9,#14 and #15 didn't make it to world cup.

Looking at how things are going (cheshm nazanam) most probably 4 teams ranked 1-19 won't make it. I think it will be portugal , colombia , sweden and wales. So we really need to play cleverly and effeciently to reach that #18 in fifa ranking by winning the last 3 remaining games. I think we can beat uae without mehdi and ghoddos and saeed.

Folks, Let's not under estimate UAE! They are a much better side than Iraq. They play an organized game and have good passing and possession skills. Their weakness is final finishing, but they are strong in defense and are specially good in controlling the middle of the park. They can be touch to beat.

The game with young Iraqi team, revealed we still have problems in defense and midfield. Shoja despite of being a reasonable defender, gets nervous at times, gets flat footed, makes mistakes and commits fouls near the 18. We have seen that happening time after time. Noorafkan, also shows nervousness in defense and often just gets rid of the ball, instead of making a smart pass. Our midfield lacks fluidity and playmaking at the moment. They need to be more involved in building up to an attacking formation. We saw number of times Taremi was coming back to play in the middle of the filed. That meant, he was not receiving the service he was expecting.

The remaining games must be looked at as an opportunity to test out different scenario or introduce new players to enhance performance. These games are as valuable as any friendly than can be arranged for the team from now till the games start in late Nov.

Coach needs to let new blood show what they have in their sleeves. Having them sit on the bench all the time is not going to benefit anyone. Look at what Iraqis did. Replaced the whole team with young players and I have to say they showed great performance.

I would disagree here that UAE being an organized team. They are loosing their main starters cause their coach is building a new team at this point !!! Majority of the UAE that we will play are young faces. With our B team we can beat them by 3-0 in azadi.

We should try out some few players (and spare the players that are on yellows, to save them for the Korea match). I think Zahedi could do a lot this game, and a rested Taremi. We pretty much don't get friendlies anymore, so we need to use these as practice games, in particular in our CBs and attackers.
