Our midfield is interesting...Gholi is a great dribbler, but below average passer and finisher, and doesn't contribute much on defense. Would love to see competition for his spot in the starting line-up. Meanwhile ARJ's passing has greatly improved, and he is starting to return to his offensive ways as well. Ghoddos continues to develop, and Eza (along with Ahmed) remain strong if unspectacular defensive midfielders. Amiri's hustle is second to none. We also have the young guys who may soon be considered for MF roles.

Wow. Didn't realize our possession was so low for the match. Guess being down to 10 men for half the game would do that. Having said that, great win for TM despite the red card and for holding the lead!

No, Gholi was the worst player along with Moharrami.
Basically we played most of 2nd half with 10 men due to a red card. Even then we still controlled the game.
We weren’t really challenged.

Two things;

According to Footmob, Gholi had the highest rating and the MOM!!!

Part of his awkward topsy turvy and infuriating performance, I think, was due to having qualified for the WC.
Just as most of the team was more lax and careless.
That's why I believe if this game truly mattered, we would have seen a very different, driven and focused team. Gholi included.
And that's why I'm not bashing the lad too much.

Stand outs were again AJR (funny how a few games ago everyone was ready for him to retire) and Abedzadeh, who as someone pointed out made the saves look easy by always being in the right spot. I think Gholi was really disappointed in his header hitting the post, you could see even after Taremi scores he's pissed off at himself and took a few moments before he went over to him (it was a decent header missed bouncing in by a few cms). I think that desperate run at the end was his reaction to this. Maybe I am in the minority, but I liked seeing that fight in him and taking the ball all the way down the other side. Yes, he should have passed it in the end for an easy goal, but I'm not sure he even looked up! I would rather see that fight in minute 90 than being content with the win, but yes he should have passed the damn ball at the end.

Anyone with an ounce of intelligence would think twice before going at a player so hard, when he is carrying a yellow card already. Especially in a stress free game like this.

You will never see this kind of behavior from Japanese or Koreans.

Behavior like this will cost us dearly at the WC. Can you imagine being a man down for half of the game against a team like Belgium.

Most players all over the world and particularly Iranian are far from being physics nobel prize contenders.
Just watch some interviews to realize how dumb some are.
Regarding Gholi, he is not consistent even in belgium. He has 3-4 consecutive games where he is good/assist/score and then back to a relative drought.
At the beginning of the season, new charleroi benched him and little by little he start to have better performance.
He really need to be challenged and left out his confort zone

Football IQ is developed at a very young age. Those countries have a great youth development system. Coaching matters. That is obviously something we greatly lack.
