    Yap. Classic championship style.

If an English team or player does this he’s just playing a physical game. If a Spanish, South American or non British team does this then they’re goons. The fans love it too. If JB had “got stuck in” a bit more he would have been considered a better player by the peanut gallery.

No disrespect mate but I really hope there is no one in TM and in our clubs in the league for that matter that gives this sort of advice. He needs to run more.

Yes this is very true. If you play in a Sunday/Saturday local league anywhere in England you know it is not football. It is bulls dropping their head and going at full speed with their beer bellies for your shin, knee, or whatever they can reach but never for the ball. And these are basically the very fans that want to see their star players play like bulls. A couple of times AS did this though not totally successful the fans absolutely loved it and he got ovation for those two occasions.

If there's 90+ minutes and you are needed by your team you need to learn to provide your abilities over the full game, not just 60 minutes.

An analogy is a 100m dash vs. a 90 minute half-marathon. The type of performance necessary for the first might not allow you to do well or even finish the second.

BTW, I'M not even critizizing him at all since I didn't watch the whole game, but going by statements that he came of at 60 mins and that he is known for his high intensity style. I'm not saying don't give 100%, but to give 100% where it counts and don't waste energy where it doesn't.

Good thing he has a wrestling background so he understands body/joint/bone mechanics and knows how to fall without getting hurt.

Still doesn't protect you against sucker punches though...

"This is a totalitarian system whose presence people feel in their blood and in their flesh on a daily basis. And it’s one that does not grant freedoms of any kind, or accommodate people’s demands in any way. What is increasingly clear is that there is clear demand for change in the regime. What the people want is regime change, and no return to the past. There is a very real possibility of regime change." - Nasrin Sotoudeh

A professional player should run around at least 14 km in a game in 90+ mintes. He is not that intense yet. Personally I expect a great player to have the ability to run and work around the pitch for 90 plus minutes. Taremi does that. and there are many others in Porto who do that. It is not considered as preserving your energy if you stop running when you have to. And AS wasn't running when he didn't have to. But TBH if he did run more no one would criticise him for that. They would praise and love him more.

This is true, but apparently his fitness is not at that level (yet). So until then, is it better to burn out after 60, or learn to manage your intensity and go the full 90? The 30 mins he missed he may have gotten another goal or assist and 30mins more game time experience!

Hopefully he'll build up his fitness where he can go full power for 90.

Since he's only 20, he still has plenty of time. The great thing about him though is that he is also skillful in many ways, so he's not just dependent on his high energy level.

That is what great forwards have had to do to last 90 minutes. And you see players pick and choose when to press, for exactly what you described. I am sure Allahyar will get better at it or maybe he was asked to work super hard and empty his tank in the first 60 minutes knowing that they'll sub him out with another guy that can give super intensity for the last 30 minutes.

Given 5 substitutions now instead of traditional 3, if you have equally skillful back up players, it makes sense to me to ask your starter to play with higher intensity than usual, knowing that they have only 60 minutes to play and the substitute will take over for the last 30 minutes. This way you are always pressing and pressuring their backline and they have less time to develop their plays and will be more prone to mistakes.

That is a very good point that I hadn't though about! Under that approach it may indeed more valuable for some situations to have two players go 100% burnout for one spot from a coaching perspective. Interesting and I need to think about it deeper. Thanks!

I don't think it works that way though. If he didnot work hard even in that 60 minutes he would be benched next game. Good example was ARJ he didn't slug it out when he played until later on when it was too late and he was a benchwarmer. He is a much hard working player now and you can tell the difference when he plays.
