why aghasi. Kanani was fantastic, keep him and build his partnership with Majid. It is our best partnership in general, unless PAG comes back in fantastic form.

You are also missing one guy in this xi (and Zahedi, Aghasi, Hardani are not in squad and dont think they will get called unless I missed something)

      We should we with:

      -----------------Abedzadeh-------

      Esmailifar---Majid----Kanani----Amiri/Norafkan

      -----------Ezatolahi-----Mehdipour--------

      Hosseinzadeh----Gholizadeh---Allahyar

      -------------------Azmoun------------

I want to give playing time to new players. We know kanaani, but we should look for alternatives if injury m/suspension/covid/out of form arrive.
        Same with Azmoun

IMO CB we are well stacked, even if no candidates are excellent, overall they are all acceptable.

If no Kanani, there is Majid and Shoja. If 2 of these are out, we have PAG coming back shortly. Not an area we need to test others extensively, this pool of 4 is enough, with possible addition of gholami or fallah as younger alternate. In fact, for heart of defense emphasis should be on improving the chemistry between the different potential pairings. Majid and Kanani dont have much game time together and individually they are the best CBs. Let them get continuity, it is also dangerous to change too much from spine of team moving forward, and will make it very hard for the new players you say you want to test out to show anything good if base behind them is full of new guys too.

If alipour or Zahedi were in the squad it would be fine to alternate azmoun and let him get back to germany early. But in this case they are not. The only alternate is karim who shouldnt even be in the squad. Azmoun imo with ARJ and Taremi is part of the teams leadership group moving forward. He must be there to set the example of how to respond following bad performance/result.

As upset and sad as I am for this loss, but at the same time I think of it as blessing in disguise. Over the past year you could sense the growing sense of cockiness amongst most Iranians and even our own footballers which could have turned into a much worse and catastrophic outcome in the actual WC. This loss and a somewhat bad performance was a wake up call and reality check. This whole situation is a reminder of our 2005-2006 era, when the entire country was confident of advancing from our group in WC2006. People seriously were talking of beating Portugal and Mexico sort of at ease...

Our defense line is our biggest flaw. We also are still unable to determine who our number 1 GK is which on its own is a huge issue already. Anyhow hope we learn and try to rectify the shortcomings. After all 8 months is long enough to work and fix things.

Keano, I don't know if you are serious. Honestly, do you really believe that this federation will do anything meaningful in the remaining time? Like honestly, do you really believe that? How long have you been following TM?

I have been following our football closely ever since I was 7-8. Yes there is no hope in the IR, you and I and everyone else know that. My comment was not in reference to the regime and its authorities.

We know at this point changing the coach is not feasible, nor will it be happening. So coaching topic is out of question. We have what we have and that is what we can afford at this point. However with what we have at hand, we know we are not what we all thought we are. And we do have a lot of issues that need fixing. By issues I am talking about our current tactics, line ups, formations, selection of players etc.

We can at least work on all of the above without relying much on the authorities I hope?

Allahyar has a critical period now - he has a lot of developing to do but our hopes are completely on him once Azmoun/Taremi era is finishing.

He has a lot of skill but needs good training, good agents, to get benefit out of his unique traits

We don't know at which level pag will return and if he won't catch another injury either. It leaves 3 CB, one of them is Hosseini which is also injured every two months

I didn‘t watch the match today. Have we played with our a-team? Which players have missed today?

100% agree with you regarding this being a good ego check for the players/fans which was badly needed.

Also agree that we have a lot of work ahead of us in the next eight months to build a cohesive team that are used to playing with each other. I think Skocic needs to come up with 26-28 players now and stick with them until WC. Have as much training camps and friendlies as possible. The issue is that everyone is going back to the clubs until May... And next year's season's will start earlier so that they can accommodate a world cup during their season. I would think clubs' pre season training will start early July. So June will be players' free month but they need to rest their bodies too. My point with all this is that there is very little time left to hold much camp and friendly matches even if we had the best federation. With our federation, I can see us not having much at all...

Ali Gholi one more proved Charleroi is the maximum he can do.
He has all tools but, he isn't smart player.
