I hear you, but honestly Mexico today is old and not impressive outside of a couple players. USA is young and has a few gems who look very dangerous when healthy in Pulisic and Reyna, and Canada is like a USA-lite with Davies and Jon David. Don't sleep on either team. I'd rather see Mexico from a pure gameplay perspective, only issue is that they play very dirty and Team Melli may fall for the bait.Originally posted by persiangodfather View PostComment

You guys are all underestimating Mexico. I'm not saying they're going to win the WOrld Cup, but they are the most consistent team in the first round of the world cup.
Even teams like Italy and Germany have been eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup - Mexico hasn't

I don’t disagree that they looked bad in WCQs but they looked 1000x worse in 2014 WCQs and look at how they did, one of the best and most exciting teams of that tournament. When it comes down to the main event they always show up no matter how bad they look leading up to it. I have vivid memory of many of the these games.
POT 1:
======
Brazil---------> 1 official friendly game played in 2010. Lost 3-0. Our legit goal was ruled offside!
Belgium------> no official game played.
France--------> 1 official friendly game played in 1978. Lost 2-1. Iran played very well against a star-filled team, only short of Plattini.
Argentina----> 2 official games played. One in 1977 at 75th Anniversary Cup of Real Madrid, ended up with 1-1. This was a full Argentinian team which eventually won the 1978 WC. Other game played at WC 2014, which unfairly ended up with a 1-0 loss.
England------> no official game played.
Spain--------> 1 official game played at 2018 WC and lost by a narrow margin of 1-0. should have really been 1-1 if it wasn't for that referee calling something!!
Portugal-----> 3 official games played. First in 1972 at Brazil Independence Cup, lost 3-0, second at 2006 WC lost 2-0, and third at 2018 WC, tied 1-1. Progressively improved against Portugal. Can next one be a win?
POT 2:

Netherlands----> 1 official game played at 1978 WC. Lost 3-0 against a team full of stars which eventually reached the final and ended up second.
Denmark-------> 1 official friendly game played in 1999 which ended with a 0-0 draw. One unofficial game played in Japan at Carlsberg Cup, which Iran won 1-0 in 2003.
Germany-------> 2 official games played. One a friendly in 1998 and one at 2004 WC. Both games with a 2-0 loss.
Switzerland----> no official game played.
Uruguay-------> 1 official friendly game played at Carlsberg Cup in 2003 which ended 1-1.
Croatia--------> 2 official friendly games played. First in 1998, lost 2-0, second in 2006 with a 2-2 draw.
USA-----------> 2 official games played. One in WC 1998, won 2-1 and one friendly in 2000 which ended in 1-1 draw.
Mexico--------> 3 official games played. Frist, a friendly in 2000 ended in a 2-1 loss, second in WC 2006, ended in a 3-1 loss, and last a friendly in 2007 which ended in an embarrassing 4-0 loss. Our record against Mexico is not good at all.
Senegal-------> 1 official friendly game played in 2009 which ended up 1-1 draw.
POT 3:
======
Morocco-------> 1 official game played at WC 2018 which ended up with a 0-1 win.
Serbia--------> no official game played against Serbia, however 3 official games played against former country of Yugoslavia. Frist a friendly in ended in a 1-1 draw, second in 1998 at Nehru Cup, ended up with a 3-1 loss, and last at WC 1978, ended up with a 1-0 loss.
Poland--------> 3 official games played. first in 1976 at Montreal Olympics which ended in a 3-2 loss. Iran played very well. Ali Parvin put Iran ahead 1-0 at the half. But Iran eventually lost a star-filled team which was 4th in 1974 WC. Two other friendlies played in 1990, but with losses of 2-0 and 1-0.
Tunisia-------> 2 official friendly games played. First in 2012 with a 2-2 draw and second in 2018 as WC preparation under CQ with a 0-1 win.
Cameroon---> 4 official games played. First in 1983 at Nehru Cup ended up 0-0, second in 1992 ended up 1-1, third in 1992 ended up 0-0 and last in 2003 at LG Cup, ended up with a 2-1 loss.
POT 4:
======
Canada--------> 3 official friendly games played. First in 1997 ended up with a 0-1 win, second in 1999 at Canada Cup, ended up with another 0-1 win and third in 2001 at LG Cup which ended up with a 1-0 loss.
Ecuador-------> 4 official games played. First in 1972 at Brazil Independence Cup ended up 1-1, second in 1999 at Canada Cup ended up 1-1, third a friendly in USA, ended up with a 1-2 win and last a friendly in 2008 ended up with a 1-0 loss.
Ghana---------> 1 official game played in 1978 at the final of Afro-Asian Cup of Nations, which ended up with a 0-3 win. Iran crowned as champion.
Peru-----------> 1 official game played in 1978 WC which ended up with a 4-1 loss. Peru was a powerhouse that year. Hassan Roshan scored the lonely goal on a beautiful volley.
Wales---------> 1 official friendly game played in 1978 which ended up with a 1-0 loss. This was the last game of civilized Iran at Ayramehr Stadium before our beautiful country was taken over by Arabs (again!).
Scotland------> 1 official game played at 1978 WC which ended up with a 1-1 draw. This was the famous game everybody talked about for years. This was perhaps the best team Scotland has ever produced. Danaai-far brilliance gave Iran a 1-1 draw.
Ukraine-------> 1 official friendly game played in 2002 in Ukraine which ended up with a 0-1 win. Ali Daie the scorer on a full Ukrainian squad.
Costa Rica----> 2 official friendly games. First in 2006 with a 2-3 win and second in 2008 with a 0-0 draw.
New Zealand-> 3 official games played. First, a friendly in 1973 which ended in a 0-0 draw. This was a game just a day before Iran play Australia for WC qualification. Many believe the player tiredness and injuries from this game was the reason why we lost that unforgettable 3-0 to the Aussies which eventually cost us missing the WC despite a 2-0 win in Tehran. The second game, in 1978 at Presidents Cup with 1-2 win, third game, in 2003 with a 0-3 win at AFC-OFC Challenge. Iran crowned the champion.
