We can't draw this because New Zealand might not qualify which means that Costa Rica does. That makes this draw ineligible because then we would have USA and Costa Rica in our group. Yes, but we can't draw them if we draw USA/Mexico. Two CONCACAF teams can't be in the same group. We won't know the winner of New Zealand/Costa Rica until months after the draw. I want the easiest group possible to give us a chance at finally getting out of the group stage. Unlike some of you I absolutely want to avoid a group of death type of scenario.
From pot 1 I think the "easiest" opponent would be Portugal followed by England and Spain.
From pot 2 I think the "easiest" opponent would be the US followed by Croatia, Switzerland and Mexico.
From pot 4 I think the "easiest" opponent would be Costa Rica (assuming they beat New Zeland), Ecuador, Ghana and Canada.
