I forgot to add, post world cup:

Scotland, emboldened by their historic win over England (which knocked England out of the world cup and saw Scotland advance to the round of 16) holds another referendum and votes for independence from the UK.

The Republic of Ireland, witnessing a shrinking UK, grows a set of balls and reunites with Northern Ireland.

Finally Wales, realizing it's pointless to be part of a two party rump UK, also declares independence.

The UK, therefore officially resolves, since it's become pointless.

England then holds an internal referendum and dissolves the monarchy.
