Thinking about the playoff: the possible rivals that Peru has on the agenda for the friendly in June

The Peruvian National Team plans to carry out its training in Europe, to be closer to Doha, the capital where the playoff duel for the Qatar 2022 World Cup will take place.

Ricardo Gareca already said it: the Peruvian National Team will carry out its preparatory work for the playoffs in Europe. The decision was evident, since a closer point was needed where they could train, facing the playoff match, for Qatar 2022 . To this we must add the possibility of a friendly, but with which team will the 'Tiger' team prepare?

Depor learned that the offer of rivals to face is wide, not only because of the need to arrive with continuity and rhythm of collective competition to the play-off match, but also because there is an interest of these teams to be in optimal conditions for the World Cup event , since some of the teams on the list have their quota in Qatar.

One of them is New Zealand , a known contender for the playoff to Russia 2018. The winner of Oceania got a ticket to the playoff zone, this time, with a team from Concacaf. The interest on the part of the New Zealanders is to be able to challenge the Peruvians and thus measure strength before a single duel against Costa Rica.

Among the teams that already have their ticket in the World Cup and with whom they could collide, before the clash against Australia or the United Arab Emirates, are Iran, Saudi Arabia and Morocco . The top two qualified directly, after placing first in their groups, into the final round of Asia qualifying.

Meanwhile, Morocco finished first in Group I and then beat Congo to secure their place in the World Cup. The African cast is located in the F series along with Belgium, Croatia and Canada, so it is very helpful to add all the minutes together, to have a good start in Qatar.

Another rival with which you could also have a friendly is Iraq . Although the Asian team did not get a World Cup quota, it was only three points behind the United Arab Emirates and could serve as a good thermometer. For now, the cities of Barcelona or Murcia, in Spain, where the base of the 'bicolor' would be installed at the end of May, are being handled. Planning continues with the main objective: to be at the biggest football party.

            Iran_19 jan,

Honduras is a very poor team, but Peru is about as good as we can get in June.
European and Concacaf teams will be playing Nations League games in June. Peru will be in Qatar for their playoff versus Australia/UAE, so it would be a good opportunity to play a half-decent team.

Might also be a good chance to play Australia or New Zealand as well.

Nations League has really messed up the friendly schedule. Bahooneye bishtar be federasiyon ham daad!

Game would be in Qatar in June. Peru will be there for their playoff.
Iran will also be there for their training camp.

Peru is going to Spain for a training camp and then travel to Qatar for their playoff game. One of the articles made it sound like they are looking for a friendly in Spain, but I agree that it would make more sense for them to want to play in Qatar to further get used to the weather.

                      Weak as hell!

In the rare case, I have to say this is a good friendly within the context of Iran's group against physical anglosphere teams. New Zealand could be good preparation for USA or England.

Canada, Australia, Ireland, Northern Ireland, etc... would also be great if it could be arranged.

That’s fine. We need those teams you mentioned. This one alone is not enough. Playing weak teams because IFF knows Iran cannot get good results against strong teams - we have to demand stronger teams to test ourselves.

New Zealand is a terrible team.

New Zealand is an extremely weak team, i’d rather have played Australia.
New Zealand got their asses kicked by Jordan a couple of months ago.
