Still I struggle to understand what all of this cyclical discussion has to do with TM. WE know for a fact every player posted their condolences, we know for a fact none of the players, staff, or indeed management personnel around TM/IFF were involved in shooting down the plane. We know that it was CANADA who invited IRAN to VANCOUVER for a friendly, when our federation even suggested having the match played in qatar or europe. We know for a fact they were going to make great money from it and have a great match. We know that 55k people bought tickets. We know canada gave the green light to Iran to organize another friendly on canadian soil, which they successfully did with ecuador.

What happened was basically unprecedented in terms of international friendlies that have been signed by two independent parties (who are free to negotiate without interference of their respective governments). Definitely not normal behavior to invite somebody for a friendly, waste their time, threaten to not give them visas, cancel their second friendly game by preventing any stadium from hosting it, and then tell them to leave the country within a few hours of the final whistle. This is supposedly normal behavior in a sporting environment?

The real reason CSA planned to invite Iran wasnt because they werent aware of plane downing, it was because they acted under the impression of sane people, that the tragedy had nothing to do with a bunch of football players (and yes, even their management + federation). Only when pressured by people who were threatening the players, a government desperate for any extra vote at future elections, and some potentially embarassing situations at passport control did they illegally pull out from the match. And all for what? More attention was not brought to the victims families, except for potentially negative attention and associations with lunatics like sideshow bob and saudi twitter shills (remember many of these victims were vatanparast people visiting Iran during their holidays, an act considered sacrilegeous by those that push for cancellinng the match), the Canadian FA suffered a huge financial loss and now will have to go through legal proceedings with IFF (fun!), and both teams WC preparations got fucked.

        Agree with the first paragraph.

Cancellation only unprecedented in recent times for Canada. Political reasons result in cancellation of friendlies all the time in many parts of the world. Lots examples recent and old, including Canada cancelling sporting events with South Africa etcs.

Your 3rd paragraph divides people into sane and insane. That sort of divisive thinking (us vs them) is exactly why this mess keeps happening to us as a community and allows Saudi twitter shills, as you call them, to take advantage of us.

I said those words to a few friends just recently myself. I now think I was wrong.

Fifa excluding Russia made politics and sports interconnected once again.

Fyi Iranian women reject volleyball invitation to Canada for a camp. In part due to recent soccer match cancelation.

So now it starts. Here is a guardian article about the Canada match basically saying TM has ties to IRGC.

              https://www.theguardian.com/football...atar-world-cup

              From the article:
. Inviting the country’s national team, which has been reported to have close ties to members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard, was a major misjudgement.

Every WC lead-up has this for TM unfortunately. It's a played out strategy.

This is a well established patter. Someone makes something up, then it gets reported over and over again (because it was "reported") , and before you know it, it is established fact!! Unfortunately, many hamvatans participate, knowingly or unknowingly in the charade.

Trump used this strategy to win the presidency!!! Social media and not intelligent people are needed for this strategy and plenty of both all over the world...

The arrangement and subsequent cancellation of a friendly game against Iran could have well been part of a cynical but orchetrated attempt to disrupt the team's attempt to properly prepare for the WC. Just think how much invaluable time Iran must have lost for arranging the game and then being unable to replace the opponent because of the fact that most quality teams were booked already.

My other concern is how the leader of a democratic country could easily exert his will on a decision made by an independent sports organization. Let's not forget that the game was ultimately canceled because of the prime minister's harsh criticism of its soccer federation.

So, is there a criterion for allowing some teams compete but derpriving others? If human rights is the issue, why don't the same standards apply to countries like Saudi Arabia or Egypt? Why was Argentina, hosting the WC in 1978 and led by a military distatorship pulling strings behind the scenes, was wholeheartedly embraced? You might say times have changed, but why are there competing criteria today?

Sports in general are supposed to blunt and transcend the ugliness in politics. (We all saw how Iranian and American basketball players gathered for group photos after their latest game in the Olympics.) Major competetions like the World Cup are designed, in part, to showcase the common ground and the joy of competing at the ultimate stage shared and cherished by all of us.

Upon rejecting a friendly, instead of welcoming Iran as a team representing the dreams and aspirations of its people, especially its young population, the Canadian authorities aligned it with its government policies, and in the process, adulterated a tradition that for many decades had managed to shun politics and, for a very short time, bring joy and excitement to the entire world.

Maybe there is a federation more pathetic than IFF. Canadian men refuse to train due contractual disputes. Also their federation has many vacant spots as well.

^lol, so if the iranian-Canadian door knockers weren’t going to stop them from playing TM, their khasis bazi may have? Glad the match was canceled cause I’d be in Vancouver now wondering if the match would even proceed!

I'm guessing when the Canadian players saw TM was gonna get a fee and they weren't compensated they probably threatened to boycott the match...so they made it political. Hope they pay a price for it.

I personally know an idiot named nahayat tizhoosh who was using all platforms to cancel that game. Fake ass Iranian, I once had a straight convo with her on IG. She ended up showing her true face then blocked me.
These people had their butt burning because of a friendly game.
