So if you could choose any current player in the world to play for Team Melli, who would you pick?

Personally, I think attacking wise we are fine, it’s defensively where we need help.

I would pick Vigil Van Dijk.

Big commanding world class centre back who would transform our defence and give more confidence to the surround players.

Other players who came into consideration, world class goalkeeper (Neuer, Courtouis, Allison)
Left back which has always been our weak point (Robertson, Hernandez)
CDM (kante, Rodri, kimmich)

I'd also pick KDB. He would be our missing link feeding our great strikers while providing support to our inexperienced defence.

I would pick de bruyne or modric too. Our midfield has some decent offensive players, especially if they are totally fit and in their groove (Ghoddos, Yasin, Hosseinzadeh) but De bruyne's dynamism and ability to dictate games, break pressure and then his quality of final action are insane. Modric in terms of dictating tempo and quality of final ball, with obviously a bit less drive given his age is also right there.

You can always put together a couple DMs/CMs who are in shape and can shuttle around the pitch and execute simple tasks when in possession. CQ found it with Ebrahimi, Amiri last time and an in shape ezatolahi. Skocic this time could very reasonably do it with a combination of those guys and new options like Mehdipour, and even potentially a returning Ali Karimi.

But players like De bruyne and modric are the type of playmakers our football has not seen since maybe ghelichkhani, and are objectively the hardest to produce.
