    Santa Clara: return to work for the period of «consolidation»

    Azoreans have some new faces in the squad

    Santa Clara officially kicked off the 2022/23 season this Thursday with the usual medical exams, showing the various changes in the Azorean squad, who will play for the fifth consecutive season in the I Liga.

    Already official are the departures of midfielder Lincoln, who headed for the Turks of Fenerbahçe, guided by Jorge Jesus, of central defender Mikel Villanueva, has already been presented at Vitória de Guimarães and Cryzan for the Chinese of Shandong Taishan, from China, usual holders of the team last season, in addition to Morita, who will soon be made official as a reinforcement for Sporting.

    Speaking to the Lusa agency, technical director Clemente Ventura reiterated his desire to build a competitive squad after the departure of several important elements.

    «We know that we have lost important elements and we will have to fill those losses and form a competitive and strong group, as we have done in recent years. The objective is to consolidate and stabilize the team in the I Liga. That's always the most important thing. We are going with the bases of last season when it comes to the technical team and we have to play every game in the same way», reveals the 38-year-old former player.

    For the 2022/23 season, Santa Clara has already secured three reinforcements, all from lower levels of Portuguese football. Tomás Domingos, coming from Mafra, midfielder Martim Maia (former Amora) and goalkeeper Ricardo Silva, coming from FC Porto B.

    Santa Clara provisional squad for 2022/23:

    - Goalkeepers: Marco, Ricardo Fernandes and Ricardo Silva (ex-FC Porto B).

    - Defenders: Boateng, Tassano, Paulo Henrique, João Afonso, Tomás Domingos (ex-Mafra), Mansur and Sagna.

    - Midfielders: Rúben Oliveira, Martim Maia (ex-Amora), Anderson Carvalho, Patrick, Júlio Romão, Costinha, Ricardinho and Mohebi.

    - Forwards: Allano, Tagawa, Óscar Barreto and Rui Costa.

          All the news outlets are confirming that Mohebi to Esteghlal is a done deal.

          A real shame.

            Shame on him to be so weak to return so quickly to IPL.

            Shame on Esteghlal to follow IPL work of destruction of iranian football by bringing back legionnaires instead of developping other local talents. Let's say Rezaei and Naderi return could be ok as they are in real dead end in Europe but Mohebi, come on..In the other hand, they are playing the tough guy to prevent Hosseinzadeh to join Charleroi (like PP do with Chaves and Abdi)

            Shame on Sapinto that pushed Santa clara for the transfer. I guess the guy will leave Iran in one months with a CAS case. If only these foreigners could snatch us some quality friendlies (both at clubs and TM level), have more euro legionnaires and convince quality foreigners to join IPL instead of that

              Talk that Mohebi wants to stay in Europe (as he has publicly mentioned in interviews before) and wants to talk to his Santa Clara manager before deciding to go to Esteghlal.

                    Shame on you for not understanding people have personal lives, families, and need to make money. Shame on you for not understanding that even well-educated people in Iran make less than a thousand dollars a month, so getting the opportunity to make a six-figure salary is rare and should/will be taken. Shame on you for saying shame on people who are just trying make money to help their families and relatives, so they don't have to struggle for life's basics in Iran.

                      Esteghlal got Kaveh Rezaei, hopefully they take their eye off of Mohebi.

                      But the fact he is in Portugal and playing with Santa Clara is a good sign that he's there this year.

                        Let's not pretend he doesn't earn his life well in Portugal while he is paid on time while in Iran (with a currency falling every day). The more he stay in Portugal the more chance Porto (in the best case) or a qatar/IPL club (in the worst case) will offer him a good contract
