Either Mehdi Taremi is the world's greatest striker or Portuguese league is very poor. I mean some of the defending I saw today was on par with Greek and Cypriot league. Yikes. Kudos to him but given his talents any more years in Portugal is a waste of time.

20 goals and its not even January. Portuguese league is not the best but 7 of his goals come from 8 champions league + world cup games… what part of this looks like jahanbakhsh that makes some of you scared of a transfer?

none for sure. JB was a winger with below average speed and athleticism. In hindsight, that was a recipe for disaster in the EPL. Taremi is a versatile striker. Great at hold up play, providing great passes to attackers and also he has become quite a poacher. I have no doubt he can succeed in the right team in the EPL.

Racists prefer overrated eredivisie sh1t like gakpo
Nothing about it is racist. Iranian players tend to be bad investment choices for the upper echelon teams and even upper leagues.

Blacks are the biggest target of racism right around the world and they are well overrepresented in all of the top leagues and the best teams.

North Africans are Muslim and Middle Eastern and also make the best leagues and the best teams. Ditto Turks.

Iranians have a terrible transfer record, being underachievers when transferring to better leagues and or better teams. We also lack fundamentals and get either severe or repeated injuries leading to significant loss of investment.

Historical examples:. Daie, Karimi, Hashemian. Current examples: Jahanbakhsh, Rezaie, Azmoun (though we hope this will not last).

Iranians who have made it in a top league are very few. No Iranian has made it in a top team. When the world is packed full of players from countries with a proven track record, why would a top team invest in an older Iranian player?

Even in lesser leagues we generally do poorly... current examples...Alipour, Mohebi, Moghanloo, Niazmand, Beiranvand, Abedzadeh....All of them were bench warmers.

Getting Taremi is a gamble and given his age, unlikely to be a return on investment. If Gakpo doesn't work out, they can at least sell him to an Italian team. If Taremi doesn't work out, he has no transfer value.

He should try to make a move to the premier league. Highest stage of football for him, and I think he would thrive.

His work ethic, durability, fitness (knock on wood), personality all are amazing making him ready for a bigger challenge

CL/EL record plus performance vs England speaks for itself if you want to be cautious about league performances (although in general top portuguese league players seem to be hits everywhere of late, especially england).

He has performed against basically everybody.

I think Arouca is just a poor opponent, but who knows? Arouca resides just within the bottom half of the league.
The Portuguese Liga seems to be very top-heavy, but IMO, it's still a level above MLS. It's probably more in-line with Liga MX with regards to talent.

One looks at Taremi in Liga and thinks: "Eh.. he's just beating poorly organized Liga defenses with good runs and slotting home with high efficiency". But then he does it against UCL opponents, such as Chelsea. And then he did it against England in a very difficult situation. That first goal he had against England was just incredible due to his timing and finish. It wasn't flashy, but it was so difficult given the fact that England has some of the best defenders in the world.

As I have stated previously, I am wary of Taremi transferring and then losing playing time and productivity; at his age, that's almost a "death sentence" for his career. But if he could go to an EPL team, or heck, even a La Liga team and start? Then I'm all for it. But exactly who is that, realistically? I don't hear any such team clamoring for him right now, which is crazy given what he is doing.

There is no dichotomy between Taremi being great and state of Liga NOS.

The state of Portugese league does not matter. Taremi is one of the greatest strikers. Look at his champions league run so far. Also bear in mind that other strikers in the league are not as dominating as he is.

                        After this performance today
the chance of taremi coming back to persepolis is 0.1% now

Disagree. Blacks and Muslims may be targeted by racism but they defend themselves.

Which Armenian player succeed in top club or in Europe for Dortmund/united to invest on Mkhitarian?

hope he stays. fixed starter, topscorer, plays CHL. instead of being benchwarmer.

CL/EL gives me confidence...albeit Azmoun had success there too. I do think he is better than the overall Portugese league. Guess time will tell. Not sure he would replicate this in the bigger leagues but we won't know unless he tries.

Portugal (top5 or 6 league) top scorer, scored goals in CL against every opponents (from top clubs to average, from group stage to QF), scored 2 goals at WC against a top NT. Portuguese newspapers hype him every week. What else should he do to get serious interests from top clubs?
