Then don't sign managers on the basis of paper!!!

I never advocated IFF to sign Wilmots, so I don't get why you are coming to me with this Wilmots BS!

There are Iranian coaches who are better than this Dalal who could have easily qualified to WC with this sqaud!

"Iranian coaches who could've qualified us"

None of them wanted to take the job man. Do you not remember? Golmohammadi and others literally rejected it. No one wanted to touch it. Skocic did and succeeded, and again, we wouldn't be sniffing the WC if it wasn't for his leadership at the time

The coaching role was offered to Iranian coaches before IFF signed Wilmots?

LOL leadership, you lost me there. Is that why the team is divided and he got sacked right now?

          Leadership, what a joke.

So out of all the Iranian coaches available, NOT one was willing to accept the offer? Come on, you really can't expect me to believe that...

We've been through this. Wilmots did not have any great achievements on his managerial CV, he was a big name player who got the massive Belgium job off the back of that and the fact he was in the backroom staff at the time. This was all at a time when the team's talent was outrageous but their expectations had still not caught up so his quarter final finish at WC seemed like an achievement to those who lacked intellect and his subsequent managerial career has shown he has no ability whatsoever.

If people wish to respect Sgoh for leading us to glory over Arab nations outside the top 50, please do so, we even have an appropriate thread for that. But please don't make out like it's the only acceptable way to act. Him achieving more than Wilmots does not automatically mean he has done well in the same way you don't show gratitude to the waiter who spits in your drink just because he didn't squat and curl a floater in it.

And the appreciation thread is also being spammed with messages hating on the guy. Tamam shod dige veleshkoon

Just because Iran had a talented team doesn't mean beating Arab nations is a given. Skocic beat Bahrain and Iraq convincingly in Bahrain when that had not been done before in our teams history. Again, we did not have that kind of success in those dire conditions before in Bahrain, a hostile environment. He did the unprecedented in that situation. I know you don't like him, but that is worthy of respect.

You guys go SO hard against him you're making me defend him for the good things he did...

And Sgoh? Really? That's pretty low dude considering he led us to the WC.

By the way, the comparison with Wilmots is meant to show you can have a "high caliber high paid coach" who doesn't give two shits and a coach with a mediocre resume who worked for pennies and gave it his all and got significant accomplishments done

The point is Wilmots is not and never has been a 'high caliber coach'. Same as with the likes of Southgate, these individuals are grossly overpromoted and fool people into thinking they're competent thanks to having a world class group of players who can perform in the 5-6 games of a tournament format in spite of their manager's shortcomings. The same (obviously with a much lower talent pool) would have been our last remaining hope had this guy somehow managed to hold his position after 2 years of hard evidence that he wasn't up to the job but thankfully that isn't the case any longer. It also doesn't help that this clown couldn't even keep the harmony within the camp which is at least the most basic requirement of any manager/leader.
