How can we do damage control at this World Cup?

I've been following Team Melli since 2004, perhaps still relatively short compared to members who have been around for a much longer time. Personally I have never felt this little excitement for the World Cup - world's biggest stage where we can see our beloved TM playing against big teams once in 4 years. Now the news is out that Skocic is staying, we seriously need to manage our expectations. We have a tactically clueless coach, zero preparation and our key players who don't believe they can make an impact. I don't want to be pessimistic, but it's not looking good. How can we make the best out of this and do damage control at the World Cup? At this point it's an achievement if we can get 1 pont and that's wishful thinking.

I voted 0 points easily, since England, Wales, and the USA are stronger teams than South Korea and Algeria's B-Team.

Assuming Wales or USA don't have last minutes Covid outbreak in their camp 0 points (England B team is destroying Iran).

Having PGPL level coach aside, I think we will be going to the world cup with some key players cut from the roster because of the Drama.

Mehdi, AJ, Saman, etc... Will most likely be dropped. We don't stand a chance without them.

Agree , 0 points and no 3 to 4 goal losses if we’re lucky.

3 losses. Camp disunity above all other issues will wreck havoc.

Oh man, the media gymnastics are going to be so cringeworthy, the US media is going to hype up the game as a do-or-die and if we collapse against them and get blown out they will sensationalize it as a moral victory.

            I feel sick

When a ship is sinking you can focus on dying or what is to your advantage.

              We have capable players.

It's home field advantage for us

Hopefully IFF can rescue the remains Fifa days

We have talented capable explosive players and their is time to repair damage.

We survived possibly getting a vatani coach and maybe all this drama lit a fire under Skocic to prove his critics wrong and make a bigger name for himself in WC

TM is TM and history has shown we have never been embarresed in a WC even in 2006 when situation was arguably worse!

I think we all hope for that to happen and I would love to be proven wrong because at the end of the day - what I think really doesn't matter as long as TM does well. But I just don't see it happening, this is a coach with huge tactical limitations and unfortunately I do not see that he will replicate our performance at 2018 WC.

The public will murder skocic if he cuts them, they already want him out plus he knows we stand no chance wirhout them.

“Those who forget their history are condemned to repeat it"

We have the benefit of learning from the past:

                    1) Unity is everything - we had our most talented squad of all time in 2006, with so many midfielders who weren't even called up to the final squad because of our depth, but would have featured in any other squad.

Yet having disunity sabotaged our chances against a weak Mexico and a team which had players without clubs (Angola). For many of us who joined these forums before 1998 world cup, this still remains the most disappointing time in Iranian football.

                    2) We can change coaches with three weeks to go to the world cup (May 1998) and still outperform any expectations, as long as the players are united and everyone is playing for each other. There is still time.

We need to learn from history.

Perhaps you are right. But guess what? Berhalter, Southgate, and Wales with interim coach all faced similar criticism to Skocic from their fans. Toop gerde my friend. Anything can happen. Let's focus on what is in our control and will our team forward. We can as fans be the 12th man for our team or be non existent! I chose the former...now the question each of us must answer is what we choose...

Maybe instead of focusing on the coach so much, we could wake up and see that our captain can't do '2 ta roopayi' ATM. This should be our biggest concern and reality checker instead of whether we have Skocic or the God King 'park the bus' CQ.

One thing that does maybe help is unity as you guys have said. And you don't create unity by saying that the head of the team should be sacked.

Outside of the fantasy world where CQ is God King we:
                          - Have the weakest squad compared to all teams in our group, so have Lil chance of advancing
                          - Can achieve park the bus tactics with any coach that we wanted
                          - Even if we park two busses should get suuuuuuper lucky to achieve anything.

we may get a point or 2 if we park the bus 10-0-0 formation

The only thing we can do at this point is hope that the players will get united; because all we have left is them and their potential. They have to go out and fight for each other, and all the weight is on their shoulders. We are going to rely on talent alone, because the fact is that we do not have a coach, a gameplan, preparation or any support from the IFF. They need to come together and fight for themselves, because it is clear that nobody is going to assist them.

It will just be up to individual talent and unity now at this stage, and we have our useless football "federation" to blame for that.
