There is a reason the regime is shit scared of celebrity supports. There is a reason they arrested Katayoun Riahi, Mahini, would ahve Karimi etc.
These people are heros to most people. Their absolute support (and I don't mean playing vasat) spurs hope, courage, and angizeh among normal people.
A national team is supposed to represent its people. Our national team with the embolem that symbolizes our occupation and repressions is not a "national" team.
As for me, I'm a normal person here who has been denied the chance to go to Iran for over 15 years. I'm doing my part, like every other hamvatan.
I'm going to protests here, I'm doing my online roohie- and etela-rasani and actually I text everyone I know in Iran telling them that victory is near and haver belief. The most important phase of any revolution is the belief that all the sacrificies won't be in vane and it's actually near.
You tell me mf_doom....Why can't some of our TM players do what some of our Shamshir-bazi, Handball, or Vosho players have done? They took a risk and retired from "national" team in protest.
Our footballers have immense influence. Much more than me, you and other random joes. They can contribute a lot more than just a "Mas'oulin" story....They haven't done anywhere near enough.
That's why they'll never be an Ali Karimi.
I have all the respect in the world for Ali Karimi for speaking out the way he has. Full credit to him. But remember: he is not in iran anymore! He has significantly more wealth than all of the team melli players (if not all, then the large majority of them). He is also retired! While I am sure it would not be easy for him to walk away from his homeland, he could do it.
Our team melli players are in a completely different situation. They have kids (like beiranvand) and young families still in iran. They can't just walk away. It's easy for us to ask them to start talking aggressively but we wouldn't bear the repercussions - they would! The likes of Taremi, azmoun, hosseini, and jahanbakhsh have spoken out and I hope they continue to do so. And yeah, i'll admit some of the half hearted statements from Amiri and Khalilzadeh have been disappointing.....but I don't have family in Iran to think of.
With respect to the handball players, god bless them for what they have done but they are not under the microscope the way team melli players are. IRGC isn't following them around watching team melli camps.
You want a free democratic Iran? Wonderful, join the club. But save your ire for people like western politicians that allow IRGC kids to come over here and buy condos and sports-cars and live an easy life. Don't start attacking athletes as "bi-gheyrat" for not talking the way you want them to; I repeat, if they started saying all the aggressive things twitter wants team melli to say, the players would face the consequences not the keyboard warriors. The obscure we see eventually. The completely obvious, it seems, takes longer. ~Edward R. Murrow

After all the shit this group of players has been through in recent years, they deserve this WC. Iranian players deal with more issues than any of their peers..to say this is IR's team or whatever is just plain BS.
Ali Karimi got to play his WCs, ACs, he got to make his money and create a legacy (that by the way was not tarnished despite the loads of mozakhraf he has also said and did over the years) that endures. Good for him! These guys deserve that opportunity as well. Not to say he hasnt sacrificed a lot, ofc AK8 deserves everything he has and more. But to strip that chance from these players as a principle is laughable. And btw will only be used by IR as another political tool to fit their mazloom namayi horseshit they love to spread.
Taremi himself has brought more joy to Iranians and a sense of pride than quite possibly any single individual has in the past 10 years. He has upheld the Iranian name amidst a backdrop of BS and basically made an entire major city in europe our supporters. All coming from nowhere in Bushehr, having his career fucked by sarbazi, and still making it to become one of the best CF in europe.
And today in Germany Bayern fans unveiled a banner in solidarity with protests in Iran when Azmoun entered the pitch. Talk about having a positive impact and getting the word out there on the biggest stage. Taremi wore armband (just like AK did) and dedicated an entire post match interview to the topic. Ghoddos has been doing his bit with english media, ARJ in Holland. Thats global exposure.
Easy for you to sit in your chair and tell them to retire in the most pivotal moment of their career! This is their livelihood and profession, they deserve the chance to exercise it. Just as ALL Iranians/human beings do.
