The World Cup is the biggest stage in world sport.

I personally have been looking forward to this world cup for so long, even more with Queiroz back. These boys have worked so hard and I look at many of them like family, they don't deserve this. But I can't stop thinking about these kids who have died, been tortured, had their bodies defiled. Our football players are now getting arrested and getting their passports taken - so sports is mixing with politics whether we like it or not. If enough isn't enough now, when will it be?

There is no change that will result from the world cup not taking place for us. Only that one of the US/Wales go through. IR does not care about football. Less headache for them the better.

Our players should go and show the best of our country. Show them that we have more than just these monkeys in charge.

Yes! lets take away the one thing that might bring these 80 million people who live in that nightmare some joy. What a brilliant idea! Take their only fkn joy. Good job!
Everyone knows that Mullahs are football super-fans! Way to stick it to them OP.

Holy crap what a dumb proposal. It's so dumb it makes my head hurt.

Don’t you think the Mullahs are hoping for some relief from protests during the WC.

At this rate WC could be a game changer for demonstration to continue or not. If Iran looses badly which doubt they would then anger will pick up. If Iran wins anything the celebration could turn to some short lived protests.

Either way Iran at WC would only help mullahs.

There will be future WC games to shine once IR is dead.

I love for TM to be in the World Cup. Bojcotting wont solve anything, quite the opposite. They have been deliberately mismanaged TM, stolen and sabotaged our sports for so long. So, who gains? TM always have my support.

But it's not fun watching football anymore. Nothing is. The perspectives of things, life and society are catching up. I mean how can we enjoy the games while our youth are getting killed and slaughtered? How can anyone enjoy life and lead a happy life in the genetical lottery called Iran?

Imagine the happiest days of life, when you get to know your wife or partner is pregnant and you're about to become a father are taken away from you. If you have a daughter in Iran, then you've condemned the girl to an inferior life. No life chances for the kid, subordination and structural discrimination at every level. Even family life isnt holy and respected there.

People who say Iran should boycott the World Cup are people who dont care about football in general and dont care about Irans nationalteams.
I would even say these people are traitors to the nation.

What makes us happier in this fcked up life than football ? Taremis game yesterday was one of the nicest days in my life, why should i miss that ? Whats the point ? If TM doesnt play at the WC will the players arm themselfs and go fight IRI or what ?

Football brings happiness, happiness is what we want !!!!!!!!!

Banning Team Melli from the World Cup or Voluntarily boycott of the event is the biggest betrayal of Iran nation.

In these harsh times, Iranian people deserve to be happy by watching Team Melli at the World Cup.

If Team Melli is banned or voluntarily boycotts, the ones who will benefit are:

              1. Islamic Republic of Iran regime who are more than happy to not participate in sporting events specially the most popular of all, the World Cup.

              2. UAE - most likely FIFA will replace Iran with UAE since they were in Iran's group, and are wealthy, so FIFA would favor them over Peru.

UAE failed to make it to the World Cup, so why give them a free ticket over our boys and management who worked so hard to qualify. Why put their hard work down the drain???!!!

UAE refuses to use "Persian Gulf" name and claims 3 Iranian Islands (Abu Musa, Less and Great Tunb Islands) to be territory of UAE. Also, UAE protects, supports and hosts members of Al-Ahwaz separatist groups.

Why would any Iranian help such enemies?

              3. England, Wales and USA will be more than happy with Iran not being there. Ever since Team Melli's win over Uruguay and a draw with Senegal, all three are scared.

              4. All separatist groups in Iran who want to create their imaginary nations will be happy.

              5. All countries who are envious towards Iran or enemy of Iranian people will be happy with Team Melli not be in World Cup.

So Team Melli should go to the World Cup, score goals and make Iranian people proud. If things go well, hopefully win and if better reach Round of 16, that will be the biggest gift to the people of Iran in these horrifying times.

Long live Iranvej. Persian Gulf Forever.

With all due respect but that is completely nonsens. They do care about football but what is most important is the Iranian people and country itself. Without these two, football doesn't matter at all. Actually nothing matter. The People of Iran and their lives our worth 1000 times more than any sport. Football is just a sport and joy, it's honor to cheer for your country when you are sure that the government and people that steer the country care about the poeple.

I agree following TM and iranian football don't have the same taste than before and become quite futile but I didn't read any reason why TM boycotting the WC will be a positive thing.
Instead of a "once again" collective punishment for people (CQ, athletes and fans), why the people favoring a boycott, don't boycott the WC and TM themselves?

Boycott the world cup for what??

The government would love it if our team didn't play at the world cup.

Why give them what they want and take something special away from Iranians at the same time??

Seeing some ridiculous thought processes from fake football fans these days.

In the course of our history what is one of the few constants that has unified the Iranian people? Football is one of the few things to do that. TM is for all Iranian fans. If the Iranian people and nation are important then let football unify them and be a beacon for their hopes and aspirations. God knows we have lacked this in our history too often.

Football is the only constant that has brought joy to our people and put Iran in a good light during the past 44 years of darkness.

As much as I'm sure footballing giants Iran withdrawing from the world cup will send shockwaves around the world so large it'll directly lead to the fall of the Islamic Republic and we can finally be liberated to have mass drug-fuelled orgies in the middle of public squares of Mashad, I think it might be wise to maybe just play the football tournament and leave the fight to political heavyweights like Kim Kardashian.

I don't agree with banning or boycotting Iran, but looking at the views on this forum - it appears that "don't mix football and politics" is the majority view.

I can't enjoy this world cup with what is happening to the country. I have always supported Iran in the stadia for every tournament but just imagine Iran scores a goal and the regime stooge next to you comes to you for a hug.

I don't want that show of unity with him. Not whilst girls are getting raped with their corpse's mutilated, not whilst a boy is tased so much he chokes on his blood. Not whilst girls are getting slammed to the curb.

How can we enjoy watching football with this going on?
