    http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?...rld+nomination

Former France captain Zinedine Zidane has been nominated for this year's FifPro Player of the Year award.

The former Juventus and Real Madrid man received the nomination, despite dramatically bowing of the game by getting himself sent off when he head-butted Italy defender Marco Materazzi in the chest during this summer's World Cup final.

Zidane is one 55 players to be short-listed for the award, with Materazzi and 2005 winner Ronaldinho also on the list.

The Premiership is well represented on the list of 55, with 18 players earning a nod for the award.

Chelsea have the most players represented on the list with nine players, which include summer signings Ashley Cole, Michael Ballack and Andrei Shevchenko.

Six England internationals are also in contention, with Ashley Cole, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard also making the list.

The list was comprised from 43,000 ballots received from players around the world, with a world XI also to be chosen as a result as well.

The 2006 FifPro Player of the Year award takes place on November 6 in Athens, Greece.

Interesting...well Zidane was superb in the latter stages of the World Cup until that headbutt again and he does deserve the nomination for the award...although the way Fabio Cannavaro played makes him deserve to WIN the award.

I'm sure Zin Al Din will either bribe FIFA for the award or threaten FIFA with a headbutt if they don't give it to him.
I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.

how could u have such disrespect for someone that has given so much to world football. The guy has footballing school all around the world and was even part of a school set up fro ppl in Bam and u still speak about him as if he is currupt.

I gotta say that the list is pretty broad. There is a few players which i think should be there.

      Eg
Ashley Cole, the guy was injured for soo long.
Adriano has a crappy couple of years.
Totti he didnt do much last season
Cicinho who is pretty much constantly on the bench

agree 100% with regard to Zidane.

also with your observations on these lists. I mean who chooses them? It's clear that they just look for the big names to fill the last spots. Ashley Cole can't have played more than a dozen games last season.

I mean what's the use of such an award when the SAME group of people are always in the shortlist year in year out and that too exclusively playing in Europe ?
