Most of the 12 clubs participating in the UAE First Division League have either sacked a coach or a professional for poor performances in the last 11 weeks of competition.
It is against this disturbing scenario that the biggest soccer event will take a three-week break after this week's matches.
Defending champions Al Wahda, who are enjoying one of their best-ever seasons, have already 'frozen' their Brazilian striker Fabio Junior and signed Angolan Morrito as a replacement.
But as Morrito will not be available till after the African Cup in January, the club have in the meantime also signed Iranian Jawad Nikonami. In addition to Bosnian Metrovic, the club will use three professionals in the Asian Champions League which will kick off in March.
Al Jazira, second on the standings, have sacked their Dutch coach Sef Vergoossen and put Belgian Walter Meeuws in charge. He is also the technical director of the club.
Al Ain have sacked their two Panamian professionals, Blanco and Tejada, who took part in the Asian Champions League where Al Ain finished runners-up, and are on the market for two professionals to play alongside Nigerian Onyekachi. However, their Czech coach, Milan Macala's future is not in danger as Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the club's vice-president, has confirmed Macala will remain with the team.
Al Wasl have accepted the resignation of their coach, Hassan Mohammad, but their results are still below expectations as the team are placed 11th.
Al Ahli have already sacked their Argentine midfielder and signed Bulgarian Martin Komprov, while Al Shabab have sacked coach Dzmal Hajji and Brazilian midfielder Geraldo. They are expected to release striker Mohammad Manga.
