why?
a) Biggest reason: 42 goals in all competitions (in 49 games!), in a season where his team won both the english premier league and champion's league...mind you, as a WINGER
b) he's undoubtedly the funnest player to watch due to the plethora of tricks he has up his sleeve and as well, he seems to be the fastest player in the world right now, zipping up and down the right-side of the flank
c) during the year that he was given this award for, i can't name one mediocre performance that I saw from him, let alone 'bad'.
d) Ronaldo makes something out of nothing...Messi does this too, but look at the supporting cast in Barcelona...you have:
Eto'o
Henry
Xavi
Dani Alves
...all of whom play in close proximity to each other, especially in the opponent 3rd of the field...
CR is more important to his team than Messi is.
...
Now let me stress, that already this year, I see Messi taking it b/c he's been simply extraordinary. We thank and support Mr.Kamran Delan for many years of dedication and service to Iranian Football Community.

b. i dont know about you but i cant stand watching him because his movement is so ugly and not smooth. i dont blame him for this though but you are talking about how fun it is to watch a player. ronaldinho, robinho, ronaldo are the type of players that are a pleasure to watch. plus, crystiana loses the ball way too much and most of his dribbling is unnecessarily. messi is fun to watch (although his dribbling is usually basic), and he has EFFECTIVE dribbling, not pointless step-overs.
c. please watch every game against any big team
d. look at the supporting cast at man u: tevez, rooney, giggs, scholes. if you have noticed most of crystianas goals were created for him, while most of messiahs goals are created by himself and he always creates for others too. i am sure messi had more assists then crystiana in 2008.
crystiana is more important to his team than messi? sorry but i just CANT debate this one logically with you so: ROFLFMAO!
the only team ever that was more dependent on one player was napoli with maradona.

now let me add my own little break down:
internationally messi has been better in 2008. he won gold at the olympics with argentina. what did crystiana do in euro with portugal? absolutely eff all. also im sure you remember the brazil friendly where he also did eff all.
the only thing crystiana is better than messi in is free kicks because he practices them 24/7 and messi doesnt, and headers because he is way taller.
on crystiana winning the league and champions league:
we saw in the champions league crystiana did eff all against barcelona. messi didnt do much either but he did more than crystiana. paul scholes happened to pick up a pass from zambrotta and score. now if eto o got a pass from ferdinand and score, and barcelona advanced does that mean messi is better than crystiana?
the league, i know crystiana was important to manure for winning the league but there were other players such as 2 rock solid defenders in ferdinand and evra, and rooney and tevez as strikers and giggs and scholes as midfielders and the whole team who played well which is why they won the league. now look at messis team: barcelona. they finished 10 points behind the 2nd placed team in la liga. that proves how much they sucked. what had messi got to do with it? hes only human. he singlehandedly got 75% of all of barcelonas points in that campaign. what more can he do.
again, messi was ridiculously important to his team. barcelona would always choke when he didnt play. when he got injured they were losing games left and right. but most of manchesters victories would have been achieved whether cystiana was on the pitch or not.
you know you are the best when a team consisting of eto o henry xavi iniesta can hardly win without you.

the fact is Messi is better than cristiana individually talking.
But unfortunately fifa doesn't realize that and give the award to that player who has won trophies with his team.
Also milad mentioned a good point, why cristiano fails big time with portugal but messi doesnt?
because Portugal is not as good as manchester.

What do you mean 'Fifa'??
This is AS VOTED by coaches and players...the only thing Fifa does is provide the ballots. lol
Now you can't believe you know more than, let's say, Deigo Maradona right? He voted for CR over his own beloved player...We thank and support Mr.Kamran Delan for many years of dedication and service to Iranian Football Community.

come back in a couple of years Milad Jan - then maybe you can learn to be wiser in the way you present your arguments and interact with others.

"Whoever thought that up is stupid," he said. "It's incredible, I voted for Ronaldo when I wanted to vote for Messi but I couldn't."Previously known as "IraqiFootball"
